Most of you probably have already heard of and been using the K-Lite (Mega) Codec Pack for some time now, or packages similar to it. But those of you who aren't yet bonified computer nerds who have spent the last 10 years on the Internet and know of every inch of it (v0dka), this is something you should find much use for.

 

K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs, DirectShow filters and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even some rare formats.

 

The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs:

*It it always very up-to-date with the newest (and/or best) versions of the components.

*It is very user-friendly.

*The installation is fully customizable, meaning that you are able install exactly those components that you really want.

*Uninstallation removes all files and registry entries created by the pack.

*It is extremely easy to make a fully customized unattended installation.

I prefer ACE mega codecspack... has more.

Atleast it used to have way more than the K-lite packs.. dunno if they seriously improved lately, doubt it tho.

Like anyone cares, but VLC does all that + it is a small open source player. Lots of support behind it as well. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ for more info.

Not true, alot of stuff is coded into VLC, it just runs ass slow so a decent codec speeds it up a fuckton.

I use it because unlike the K-Lite pack which I used for years, this program has done more with less problems for me. K-Lite works very well, but I find some things much better with VLC.

How exactly was I raged? I was simply expressing that VLC's built-in support for various formats was subpar and a decent external codec could speed it up quite a bit.
