Posted October 26, 200618 yr Alright, well to keep this as short and least-embarassing as possible... I was partitioning my hard-drive last nite with Acronis Disk Director Suide and right in the middle of the partitioning, I got an error and my PC automatically rebooted itself. Upon reboot, I got an error that said MBR Error 1. Since this was a fresh install of Vista, I forgot to place the boot.ini and other two files (forgot the names) in C:\ to get Acronis to recognize it as XP just so it will boot...well after much hassling I finally got to and placed the files with removable media and workarounds on the Vista install disc, but after rebooting, it didn't seem to fix the problem. Now, I don't know too much when it comes to command prompt, but I managed to recover the 75 GB hard-drive and now I just have a huge disk of unallocated space and the only volume being my DVD-ROM drive. When I try to install Vista, either my 75 GB disk will show up as unallocated or another "X:\" disk will show up that's 35 GB and I have no idea where that came from. What I need now is someone to give me the commands to type in command prompt to get my hard-drive back, so I guess I can just reinstall Vista (because getting my data back is out of the question) and use a damn program that works (Norton Magic Partition). Thanks in advance.

October 26, 200618 yr I have the solution for you, place keyboard directly underneath you, get into crouching position. Make a short prayer to yhe CPU. Now, commence banging yor head on the keyboard in rhythmitic intervals. if you did it correctly, the probability that you will fix your problem due to your head hittign random keys and generation random commands is 0.000001%. Therefore you must do this for quite some time for it to start to take effect.
October 26, 200618 yr I would just place your HD in another PC and set it to slave and get anything you need off of it if that was a possibility. Otherwise you are best off to reinstall your operating system and resetting the partitians at the begining.
October 26, 200618 yr Wait ,you don't care about losing the data on the drive? If so, from a command prompt: ***** YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE EVERYTHING ON THE DRIVE BY DOING THIS ***** > fdisk fdisk will allow you to remove any partitions that the drive currently has so that you are back with one lump of unusable disk space. then have fdisk create your primary partition (2nd, and 3rd if you want too) > format c: i used c: because it's the most common, probably will be your primary partition as well. make sure you format with the NTFS file system. Once the format completes (give it awhile especially if you have a big drive) pop in your Vista dvd and boot from it. Make sure you have your BIOS setup to boot from the CD before any other device. PM me with any more questions.

October 26, 200618 yr Just stick the Windows disk in (not sure if this is the same with Vista) and delete the partitions through that and create a new one and just re install Windows. I recently fuxxord my Hard Drive as well and this fixed it.
