Jefferson believed that the slave community members were worthless and they had less of a capability for intelligence than the white man did. He feverishly owned and bred slaves. He even raped one to get more slaves for free; he made his own love child a slave!

 

Thomas wanted people to think he was pro-American, however, and so spoke out publicly on several occasions against slavery. He even freed a few of them. But in reality Jefferson was a racist man who thought nothing but of his own race being the superior one. He did not once even think that the white man may be at fault for the slave's incompetence, seeing that we uprooted them from their homeland and forced our labors upon them.

 

Several freed slaves were very angry at Thomas and sent him letters. One black man was so enraged, that he sent Jefferson an example of mathematical and astronomical study that he had written. Jefferson dismissed the matter as thinking that a white man must have helped him.
