Posted November 25, 200618 yr I have been using Bittorent for what seems like forever. I know a lot of people prefer rapidhsare as well (but that involves $money$ which seems to me like it defeats the purpose of file sharing). Anyways I have always gotten slow download speeds using Azureus over a comcast connection. I am just wondering what other file sharing options people prefer, or if anyone can help me maximize my download speed in Azureus. Thanks, Ricco
November 25, 200618 yr I usually use Limewire, but download only songs, besides, programs usually end up to be viruses anyways. I use emule for all my file needs because 9/10 times the file is what it says it is, and its a good copy of it. eMule takes some configuring though..
November 25, 200618 yr i use BitComet for like whole albums and movie searches and stuff and Ares for individual files
November 25, 200618 yr Author I appreciate the large number of responses to this thread, but I am still wondering what kind of download speeds people are getting through there torrent apps? I have had cable for a little over three years, and I have never been able to get my torrents running at a reasonable amount of speed. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would be willing to give me a good configuration to a bittorent program that they enjoy using. Thanks, Ricco
November 25, 200618 yr uTorrent for torrents and limwirePRO for singular songs easiest way to go is torrents tho :D
November 25, 200618 yr Author I have always loved the idea of torrents however, cable use gives you an asymetric connection so I never get a good download rate. Maybe I am just stupid, and don't understand how to configure my computer correctly. What kinds of speeds are you getting, and over what type of connection?
November 25, 200618 yr limewire I can usually get around 100 kb/s because by the time it picks up that much speed the file is done. eMule is a little slower maxing out around 50 kb/s but you'll find things that you won't find anywhere else on eMule. on my uTorrent, I get speeds from 100-400 kb/s down and 40 kb/s up

November 25, 200618 yr Author Could you possibly show me how to configure uTorrent for my comcast cable connection. I am fairly connection savy so I can probably understand the genereal jist without a screenshot walkthrough (although that would be very helpful if you are felling generous :). I would also appreciate any other p2p advice. Thanks in advance Ricco
November 25, 200618 yr If I must, utorrent, honestly though torrents piss me off. I get to like 89% after 2 weeks of downloading something and then theres no more seeders and no leachers at past 89%. GG.... If I can, I like just dling thru FTP, it's just as fast ffs, only reason torrents are good is because of bandwidth issues, and oh yea... having a torrent open really lags you - you can be dling at 4kbps and still lag like hell just cuz p2p clients / torrents are cool like that...
November 25, 200618 yr i use ABC Torrent, never had any problems with it http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/
November 25, 200618 yr Author I don't knowwhat FTP dling is, and I ususally get very slow speeds with my torrents as well. Although I really do appreciate all the replies, what I am really looking for is someone who gets decent torrent speed (100 KB/s average or above) on almost every torrent with a cable connection. If anyone gets these results I would love some inside help on how to set up my connection to get those speeds. Thanks, Ricco

Thanks, Ricco It all depends, if the ratio of seeders is > the ratio of leechers, chances are youll get a nice and fast dl speed--if not, slow. Also, routers/firewalls/etc can slow down your speed, so make sure the right ports are forwarded etc etc etc. If all fails, chances are you're using AOL and </life> would suffice fine.
November 26, 200618 yr For large files, get a rapidshare acc (it's cheap) and get your files from somewhere like http://www.phazeddl.com or something. If you really cba to buy an acc, just use http://www.rapidrip.com or something like that.
