Posted December 26, 200618 yr Ohio just recently passed a smoking ban that bans smoking in all places of employment, "public places" (like restaurants and bars), and basically all indoor buildings where smoking is allowed. They have this website to, http://www.smokefreeohio.org and they post bullshit, absurd facts to brainwash people like this one. Did You Know... After 120 minutes of secondhand smoke exposure, your heart rate variability is reduced, increasing the chance of an irregular heartbeat that can itself be fatal or trigger a heart attack. Where the hell are they pulling these facts from, I can't think of anywhere but their asses. Most restaurants are complying with the law and have removed ashtrays, and posted no smoking signs with a number in big bold letters with a number to call to report violations. And not only can we no longer smoke indoors, we also have to stand outside at least 30 feet from the entrance. People are not obeying that part at all and since they have removed the ashtrays outside, there is cigarette butts everywhere. The signs remind me of Nazi Germany, like a number to report jews, every chance I get I put a little swastika in the red circle of the no smoking symbol. Now, obviously you can tell I am a smoker, which is not something I am proud of. It's not something I recommend anybody start if you are a nonsmoker, quitting is the HARDEST THING YOU WILL EVER DO IN YOUR LIFE. I plan on quitting in the near future, but I want to quit on my own terms, not because big brother says I should. If people will comply with shit like this, then who knows whats next. Whether you smoke or not, bans like these should be an eye opener for whats to come in the future. Especially the fact that they call restaurants and bars "public places". Restaurants and bars are not public places, they are privately owned. It's bullshit because if you were going to visit my house as a guest, I am the owner, I make the rules about whether you can smoke or what other legal behaviour is permitted in my house, why should it be any different for a bar or restaurant. If secondhand smoke bothers you, then go somewhere else, there is plenty of nonsmoking bars and restaurants to go to. But point is that businesses (for the most part, with a few exceptions) are not public places, and you do not have a natural born right to go there. And also, many modern restaurants have completely different sections that are almost seperate buildings from the smoking and non-smoking section, with a complete wall that goes from floor to ceiling in between them. It's also retarded banning smoking in all places of employment, like mine. I work in a GM assembly plant where the chemicals and oil we breathe makes second-hand smoke seem like clean oxygen from a respirator. (But the money is worth it, I make almost 3 times what I made at my old job) We used to be able to smoke anywhere in the plant, now I have to choose between having a cigarette or eating on my break and lunch since the plant is huge and it takes like 10 minutes to walk to the nearest exit. The ban is just ridiculous and goes too far, we can also no longer have smoking rooms that are completely designated to smokers. Like my old job, we had a smoking break room that was completely walled in on all 4 sides, with a strong fan ventilation system and a heavy steel door that was on springs that closes automatically so that it cannot accidentally be left open. Tell me how that hurts non-smokers. Although the ban officially took effect on Dec. 7th, it cannot be enforced until June. Many restaurants are complying with the ban, however most bars arent. And the few that are, are completely empty. And despite what other people will say about smoking bans not effecting bars or restuarants, it does. Try actually asking a real small business owner. Ohio's economy is shitty enough as it is, Cleveland was named poorest city in the nation for the 2nd time in 3 years. Now we have something else to hurt us with the smoke nazis pushing their preferences on everybody else. If you don't smoke good for you, you wouldn't be affected by this, but its only a matter of time before you will be when we all have to have our id cards and patches in public.
December 26, 200618 yr I live in ohio and it sucks that this shit even passsed! They tricked and confused voters all along. Now tell me what good it does to have no smoking in a bar so now all the parents who normaly smoked at the bar will now stay home and drink and share all the smoke with their kids instead BRILLIANT!:thinker: I cant wait to see how much the smoke nazis get paid to enforce this crap! Now each county gets to create a new task force for policing the ban so a bunch more of my F**king tax dollars can go to waste chasing down an out of place smoker?????????
December 26, 200618 yr Author I live in ohio and it sucks that this shit even passsed! They tricked and confused voters all along. Now tell me what good it does to have no smoking in a bar so now all the parents who normaly smoked at the bar will now stay home and drink and share all the smoke with their kids instead BRILLIANT!:thinker: I'm sick of hearing people say I have the right to go out to the bar and not have to smoke yoru second hand smoke... No you don't! You don't have the right to go there and not breathe smoke and I don't have the right to go there and smoke, neither is a guarenteed right. The person who has the rights to decide what legal behaviour occurs within his property is the property owner. But your wrong about enforcement, I asked a police officer what they do if someone is smoking illegally, and he said nothing. Its not our job to enforce it, thats all the health department. (However, if you are smoking illegally and asked to leave and you refuse then that becomes trespassing which is a criminal offense, but isn't that ironic since they are supposedly banning smoking in public places, if its a public place, then how can I possibly be trespassing?) And I guess the fines are 100 dollars for an individual.. but what my question is how is the health department gonna cite me? What power do they have over me as an individual? The health department doesn't have arrest powers. They try to cite me for smoking too close to a door, they ask me for my id and I say suck my dick, blow smoke in their face and then I leave... End of story. (You cannot issue a fine and expect someone to pay it without getting their id so you know their name, where they live etc.)
December 26, 200618 yr LAWL j00 g0tzz ragd by teh peopl in the govnterment ahahahahhahahh I don't smoke so o00o0o0o0o0

December 26, 200618 yr Author It true you know:gaykeke: oh ya, your right... I'm going to church right now to make peace and will probably end up committing suicide after learning that every innocent nonsmoker that has breathed my smoke went home and has had a heart attack and died! I can't live with myself knowing this.
December 27, 200618 yr Smoking is poisonous, it should be banned altogether. agreed, smoking is for pussys anyway, do heroin
December 28, 200618 yr smoking is a choice, and therefor should'nt be controlled by the government. 90% of you nigg3rs on here are democrats who want bigger government anyways. we will be communist's in no time. no cell phone use while driving, no smoking, seatbelts manditory. if your fucking retarded enough to smoke, use your cell phone imporperly while driving or not use your seatbelt then you should die. simple as that.
December 28, 200618 yr Similar law was passed here in the UK about a year ago but it doesn't come into effect until Aug 07. To be honest, I can't wait, the worst part about coming home after a night out is all my clothes stinking of smoke, I can't even get in my own bed without taking a shower because the smell is so bad. There is no such thing as a no-smoking bar here as it stands so you can't argue we have any sort of choice. I think a really sensible thing to do would be this. Instead of an outright ban, make a law that states that businesses must pay a license to allow smoking on their premises, depending on the capacity of the place, amongst other factors, then also put more funding towards anti-smoking initiatives. The problem with government, and I've said this for a long time now, they never attack the root of the problem, only ever the problem itself and this may provide a short-term solution but it doesn't make a difference in the long run. I don't know where I stand with this one because whilst I really don't like it, it infringes people's rights and if it was something I cared about I would sure as hell not sit idly by while the government imposes their will on my rights.

Good post really... And I'll agree with it. That seems sensible.
