im considering getting a brand new computer sometime within the next year. I need to know, as of now is getting an SLI system worth the price?

No.

New cards are getting released all the time. You go out and buy 2 of the latest Gfx Cards for 2k and then a month later you have a new model for 1k that pwns the older models.

If you have cash to waste go ahead.

next year?

new cards get released all the time, so ask us again...

in 12 months!

(no, SLI is a waste of money)

i suppose i should clarify my SLI intentions. i do not intend to get 2 spanking new cards and put them together in SLI, even a noob like me knows that's overpriced and stupid. im more asking along the lines of buying 2 cards that are slightly older and cheaper and putting them together in SLI. would this give more bang for your buck than a brand new card or not?
thats retarded, why bother building SLI if you arent going all in

qft

SLI aint worth it. MABY!!! if you a SUPER hardcore gamer that has millions of dollars then yes go ahead but other wise no, go with dule core.

Dual core is for cpus and sli is for graphics cards.

Back on topic,

It really depends on how well you want to play games. Like I have a single graphics card that I picked up for a hundred bucks that gives me roughly 120fps in css and 350 in cs (dev mode). I get around 70fps with fraps on cs. Basically I tried to get a decent cpu and a decent amount of ram because thats what source needs. Source is pretty cpu intensive so you need a good cpu.

it depends what game you have tbh, css i can play on a 6200 and it was fine, but quake 4 was terrible, so, if your going to spend your time on css, then what the fuck is the point? however, if your going to play more testing (and more skilled) games like q4, then move your ass to bfg 7950 gt in sli, your fps would kick ass. duel core more ram and better gfx, way to roll.
Just spend like $200 on a single card. That should be enough for a card that will play any game out right now just fine.

8800GTX w/ DirectX 10 one will shit on everything out there, don't try to run it without at least a 600w PSU.

IF your gonna SLI it I'd recommend at least 850w if not 1000w

i play alot of flight sim x, and thats pretty testing on my current card (as in i can barely run it unless everything is set to minimum) so im thinking i may need to dig deep for a good card

get 1 X1950XT 512/256bit

or a GeForce7900 512/256bit

Just wait for DX10 cards to pick up. They'll be faster. DO NOT BUY TWO CARDS.

Or I will call you an idiot.

moar or less

nope, just wait and get a really nice dx10 card at this point

pent D 3.2 dual core

bfg 7800 GS

1 gig of kingston ram

runs any game on at least high across the board

-2142 i can run maxed out while broadcasting it thru videochat at the same time

-oblivion everything up easily alltho i get random slowdowns while battling in the woods

-armed assault i run it on high but not very high :( (they dont support dual cores yet)

-source... is a joke but it still runs perfect

-flight sim X i can run everything on high but i think that game needs a few performance patchs

thats confusing i just want a better graphics card maybe a new processor as well, plus thats in canadian dollars i dont use gold dubloons or stones or whatever u people up there use
