Evolution is not proven theres a lot of evidence but its called a theory for a reason.

I could possibly buy the thought of evolving from apes, because of the striking similarities, however I just don't buy the evolution theory of how the first forms of life (single celled organisms came about.) I don't care what kind of gasses, atmospheric conditions, proteins, nucleic acids, or molecule reactions occur. I believe that you cannot create living things from non-living things. Many scientists believe it was a chemical reaction that created life... However, they have been unable to create a living cell from nonliving matter to this point. Until they can do that, I believe in a higher power. Although I don't think any religion has it down quite right. Plus, I have experienced too much unexplainable shit to deny the existance of an afterlife.

If they did, they would probably find that the theory on the beginnings of evolution seem "bogus," much like how they feel about the beginnings of the God religions.

 

I try to find a middle ground myself.

 

1.The only thing worse than a relativist is an agnostic.

2. Obviously you know little about evolution also. Evolution does not explain a beginning of life, only its progress. The beginning of life only had to be a series of elements for a self-replicating chemical compound. While this sounds very improbable, it is. It doesn't matter how improbable it is, since it only had to happen once.

How does it strike you that you're made of non-living elements, chemicals, compounds, and acids?

 

If that is established fact, then why is it such a leap of faith to believe that a random series of chemicals and compounds formed into a self replicating compound, much like a crystal?

I agree with Spooned, though the explanations for the creation of the universe in both camps is not very believeable. I am sure that the creation of life from a scientific point of view is A LOT more likely than from a higher being.

 

People makes excuses for coincidences. That website had some good points (but also quite a few bad ones), such as why amputees or starving people don't have their prayers answered. Everything just happens there is no connection between your actions and a god. Some things can't happen, such as growing back an arm, but it isn't impossible to get cured by cancer.

 

I'd rather believe evolution anyway, it's cooler and doesn't involve religion.

 

I have faith in man alone because of the advancements we make everyday. Just look at the possibility of curing AIDs and cancer. We have a vaccine for cervical cancer. Many diseases have been wiped out. Sure there is still war and suffering, but religion is a cause for this. And power of course, but human flaws are to be expected. Evolution is a progression, and we see progression now. Why is it so hard to believe? Religion is a safety blanket maybe?

if you really want the true facts read what the experts have to say then decide for yourself, don't just go by what you have been told (most of this is biased because the school system is biased because of the religion issue) because most of that probably scratches the surface at best on the topic (previously mentioned, this goes for everyone who claims they have made up their mind to be on 1 side of the issue)

I can force my opinions onto other people by beating them, starving them, depriving them of fluids, sleep, etc. Therefore, if I believe in Allah I can make you believe in Allah aswell.

That's your opinion and I may listen to it and research it. My school was highly religious and we often had people come in to talk to us about Christianity and how he isn't the real thing. I got that side of the story down pat. Now I think it is perfectly reasonable to make up my own mind, just using simple logic. I am yet to reasearch the evolution side of things more, but as it stands I am atheist who believes in evolution. So I will definitely look into the theory in the future.
