Posted January 22, 200718 yr 1st. I had onboard sound, and I started getting crackling noises in my games and when listening to music. I bared with it for a while, then I got annoyed. the crackling came through my Speakers And my Headphones. The headphones are pretty good ones, aswell as the speakers. (3 speakers in total) 2nd. I went and got a soundcard, I Uninstalled all the other soundd rivers from my onboard sound, Disabled onboard audio in BIOS, and installed my Sound Card drivers from the CD. When playing games it's fine, but when I listen to my MP3 Music with winamp, and Windows Media player, it's pretty **** quality, and sometimes crackles. (This is with Speakers + Headphones) I really do NOT no what to do now. I'm thinking it's something to do with an Audio Codec not being installed or something? I dunno. I then tried installing my drivers (C-media) from the C-Media website, it still gives me the crackling sound. I've check the plugs at the back, they are all plugged in correct.. It can't be a hardware problem, because it's a bit weird that my speakers + headphones make the same sound, at the same part of the song/s. My sound card is a Cobra AW-840 CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device

January 22, 200718 yr Is your PC custom built? Something could be conflicting, and software / drivers could be too.
January 22, 200718 yr Author Is your PC custom built? Something could be conflicting, or software could be too. It's not custom built. I reformatting thinking it would help, but it didn't. Only thing that MAY be a problem is that my computer screen is also a TV.. But I think I remember me trying to play games with my old monitor and it happening..
January 22, 200718 yr kk, its a hardware problem either has to do with bad contacts or conflicting chipsets. etart by removing all PCI Bus drivers and sound card software+driver (do it in safe mode, F8 on startup....) once you've got all that shit removed. Re-install your chipset drivers for MOBO. Find out what motherboard you have and get the driver from the manufacturer(nforce4,k8t800 ect) once re-installed, reboot PC without sound card plugged in after all your shit is back to normal without the sound card, turn pc off put in sound card, bootup, install from cd done if crackling continues, try onboard only then its hard to tell wtf is going on, IF onboard keeps crackling, its your motherboard thats fucked if your onboard no crackle, try sound card again crackles again? call Cobra, shout in their ears then explain, they might be able to help if not, you're fucked btw, shoulda got a Creative X-Fi
