Posted March 11, 200421 yr RAWLINS, Wyo. – Poison and disease are being considered in the mysterious deaths of at least 200 elk southwest of here. Two affected elk were found by hunters earlier this month, and the Game and Fish Department has since discovered dozens of dead and dying elk by combing the Red Rim Wildlife Habitat Management Area on foot, four wheelers and by airplane. At least another 100 elk were found over the weekend. All have similar symptoms, particularly the inability to move. Many elk were found alive but had to be shot after authorities were told they would not recover, game warden Benge Brown said. “They are alert, but they just have no strength,” said Kent Schmidlin, Lander region wildlife supervisor. “When we find them, they are lying down on the ground but they can’t get up, almost like they are paralyzed in their lower extremities.” A veterinarian, toxicologist and pathologist are analyzing about 10 of the carcasses to determine what caused their death. Poison, disease and other factors are being explored, with preliminary results expected early next week. An area water well was also being tested, Brown said. The elk were otherwise in good condition and there was no evidence they were harassed or run to exhaustion. Mother Nature can’t be blamed either. “It’s a pretty light winter out there,” Schmidlin said. A nearby herd of about 600 elk appears to be unaffected, he said. “Right now, we are asking folks to stay out of the area so we can do our investigation and find out what is killing these elk,” said Joe Nemick, the region’s lead wildlife biologist. --------------------------------------------------------------- I did a littel research on this and I found some intersting things... They already autopsy one of the elks, they did not find any mercury (which is one of the theorys why they dead, they might have dranken water that was poisned with mercury) They did not find any viruses or bacteria, which means this is in the chemical level, because the elks Nevrous system where 'not working proper' Reporters saying, that they saw a elk, it was scard and shaking, but it dident have the strenght to run away from them. It was as something was affecting there nervous system... No other species died, wahtever caused there deaths, it was SPECIFICLY aimed at the elks... One of the biggest secert bases are in wyomin and nevada. This could have been a test of a new nerv agent, that targets specific species, dna structure, etc.... Goverment is having a fire drill, in which the park will be closed, and noone will be allowed to be in there..... i smell consiparcy!!!!!

March 12, 200421 yr deer and elk have pointed antlers, moose have spatulate antlers...basically, where elk antlers look like sharpened branches, moose antlers look kinda like scoops or cactus paddles Elk are basically deer-supersized, but their meat is richer. Your average mule deer (aka "blacktail" some places) is about 200 pounds of meat, dressed, a whitetail is about 160-180 pounds of meat...elk commonly weigh over 1000 pounds, and a 1400 pound moose is a lightweight... to put that in perspective, a normal deer weighs about what a large redneck does before it's killed, an elk weighs what his wife does, and a moose weighs what his truck does.
