Well, I would like to get an opinion from the community on what type of vehicle I should purchase... at the moment, I am saving up to buy a second generation Toyota Supra, and its going to cost me a bit of money, so I need something somewhat respectable / reliable in the meantime. I am looking to spend around 5000 dollars tops to get something decent to last me for a while. Anyways, from reading previous conversation I've noticed theres a couple people that know a shitload about cars on this forum (Tom/MillerTime), so I figured this would be a good place to ask.... I am looking for a Japanese vehicle as I haven't had any good experiences with any of the domestics I have owned. But yeah, if anyone could give me any recommendations or tips for Japanese cars around 5k, I would appreciate it. Thanks
Any Toyota pickup truck. They're dirt cheap, run forever, and people will respect you on the road since they know you have nothing to lose if you wreck, and probably don't have insurance.

yes! that shit is hella true. i had a blue 83 toyota pick up and it lasted 3 generations. the only reason we got rid of it is because to fix it to get it smogged woulda been like $200, but the state gave us $1000 to retire it. otherwise we woulda still used it and it was fun to drive too.

but i would suggest getting like an Integra. those are pretty good cheap cars.

Well I'd imagine he'd want to save gas because of the supra in his future...

The only cars he'd be able to afford would be escorts and malibus mabye...

Jap cars suck, buy a german one ....

Again the expense would put him back on the car he wants in the future.

Not sure about in Alberta,

But in Ontario you can find yourself a nice 240sx with an SR20 in it for about 4-5000 dollars. Fun car to drive, not TOO bad on gas, and very reliable.

If you do find one, look at the upper shock towers under the hood and in the truck for signs of rust. Also check out the spare tire bay, and the frame of course.

Japanese cars are generally reliable.

you have made 2 mistakes

1. asking some nerds on the internet about what car you should get.

2. considering a supra

97 supra is the shit sir.

As with the other real helpful posts, I'd either go with a Toyota, Mazda, or old Ford (GASP DOMESTIC?!) Pickup.

Pickup trucks are very reliable and will survive the normal bumps and scrapes of daily life, not to mention that you might survive a few nasty crashes without having to actually get anything done to fix the truck.

Now, if you're looking for something that you can buy for like under 2 grand, look for some old 1980's civics, the 2 doors. They're ugly as all hell, but you can strip them and get 50MPG+ as long as you drive efficiently, not to mention that the engines on Civics will go to about 400k before giving out and getting D15 engines are like less than 300 anyways.

LOL FUCK FORD!!!!!

Some american made cars are 'OK' but guzzle gas and overpriced.

Jap/Euro cars pwn IMO. Supra's are very nice if you have the money to tune them, stock is just a waist of money as you can get other cars hella tuned for the same price that would pwn it in 1/4 and highway.

LOL FUCK FORD!!!!!

typical retard

buy a ford or GM if you actually want to get something for your buck, you won't need to replace or fix parts often k

buy this bad boy

Once again I appreciate all the insight and helpful posts, thanks especially to rampagen/Tom, but I do appreciate everyones input. As far as buying a domestic vehicle goes, I have owned/driven several, and all have appeared to have reasonably significant mechanical problems... maybe these were just bad models/years, but I have had experiences with the following domestic cars.

2000 Ford Focus

1998 Ford F-150

1994 Ford Explorer

1979 GMC half-ton pickup (<--- this speaks for itself.)

1990 Chevy Cavalier
