March 12, 200718 yr Author I currently have an Intel P4 2.6ghz. 1 gb RAM. NVidia GeForce 6200 8x AGP. Everything else I've replaced recently, and now I want a faster machine, any suggestions on new motherboard/processor and video card? I believe my RAM is enough for right now.
March 13, 200718 yr If you want stability: PROCESSOR: Core 2 Duo MOBO: INTEL DG965RY MEMORY: Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 (the 1.9volt sticks) VIDEO CARD: Something in the 7900 range, I recommend the EVGA 7950 GT KO 512MMB supoerclocked card SOUND: Get an X-Fi Xtreme Music or better, so you can use ALchemy in Vista CASE: CoolerMaster Centurion. Cheap, quiet, toolless, quality. POWSUP: Something Antec, Enermax, or PC power and cooling. At least 400Watts. Make sure it has PFC. DVDROM DRIVE: grab a pioneer, or samsung DVDRW+- drive. Plextor is too expensive.

March 13, 200718 yr Newegg has better prices than most any store. Fry's, Compusa, Microcenter, Best Buy, Circuit City, and they are way fucken cheaper than those small ass PC stores mostly found in mini-malls.

March 16, 200718 yr http://www.ibuypower.com http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ They've got some pretty good options there, I haven't personally bought anything from them, but I'm thinking about doing it because the computers are just so cheap there.

Both are shady sites, avoid like the plague. Before you buy from a site, run it through resellerratings.com. Possibly saving a few dollars isn't worth flushing a few hundred down the drain. Fatty said: POWSUP: Something Antec, Enermax, or PC power and cooling. At least 400Watts. Make sure it has PFC. Good brands, though PFC is useless, unless you live in Europe. In the US, you won't save any money or see any benefit due to differences in the power systems. Also add to the list Zippy, Sparkle, and OCZ. Generally look for a few good reviews that actually go beyond "it looks pretty". If they talk about weight, run it through a multimeter, and an oscilloscope and sound like they even know what to do with it, it is probably a pretty good review.
March 17, 200718 yr Fatty: Their rating for lifetime isn't that bad, but their 6 month rating is atrocious, so I can believe that you have had a good experience in the past. It looks like they have had issues with sloppiness in build quality, as well as problems with customer support. That and they are a shady company to begin with. They will not acknowledge that they are the same company as cyberpowerpc, as well as at least one other alias company. Like I said before - look into who you are trusting your money with. Sometimes it is worth spending more to get peace of mind.
March 17, 200718 yr meh. ibuypower is the opposite of Dell. It depends on what you want. Dell gives you incredible customer service at the cost of performance parts. To build a blazing desktop gaming rig from dell, prepare your wallet for ass rape. Ibuy is very different. If you don't mind talking to spotty "Chinglish" tech support, then your money will go further in the parts department. If you aren't happy with either, build it yourself or get someone to help. If a part goes bad, be ready to go through the hassle of RMA. That is my final take on that. I agree with aids on some points, but I defend ibuypower's reputation to the extent that they won't take your money and flee to Mexico.
