/DRUNK!

1) I recently bought a new HD to add to my PC. They are different HD's so i cant raid them...but when i installed the new HD and tried to put the OS on the new one i couldnt get it to load from the new drive. It will only load from the old one.

After messing with it for a while i just said screw it and put the OS on the old drive. Even though i want it on the new one since it has a 16mb cache instead of 8.

Now just recently i remember noticing when i was installing it that it had no jumpers on it but the older HD does. Is that what the problem is?

The new HD is a WD Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

The old one is a WD 200gb 7200rpm drive.

2) Anyone have a working copy of Vista yet? I have a couple of copies but i have no permanent serial. Has one been made yet? Im not asking for a working serial (I can get that) but has the 30 day trial been figured out yet?

3) I posted this before and i might as well post it again...

I recently formatted and after getting everything setup i noticed that my downloads are going no faster than 55kbs. They were going at around 320 give or take. This applies to ALL downloads whether its in Firefox, I.E., Torrents, or even in games when i have to download something.

My internet seems a little slower as well but not a huge difference, and the same with my online games.

At first i thought it may be my Ethernet plug so i bought a new one but no help. I also bought a new router but also no help.

Sorry for the long read...any help on any of these and I LOVE U LONG TIME!

the new HD is sata and they have no jumpers. Where did you try to install windows from (in windows from the disk, or by booting off the CD)?

I would say disconnect the old drive, plug in the new one, boot from CD, install windows that way.

No permanent vista cracks have been discovered/made. Only ways to reset the timer so far.

no but im pritty sure they work coz most people are useing them ,read the info on them.

I tried booting from the CD and then i pick which partition or drive i want it on and after all that it would try and boot off the old one which didnt have an os on it.

But if i installed it with just the new HD in then would i just hook the old one back up after i did all that?

Actually i think i might have tried this and it didnt work...I think it wouldnt even boot the XP cd. It kept saying invalid boot sector or something, damn im not sure what it did but im pretty sure i tried this and it didnt work now that i think about it.

And then i think i got it to work somehow and then i reformatted again and when i chose the new drive it said it wasnt a compatible partition and wouldnt give me the option to format it. SHit i cant remember now, i was curious about it.

Anybody happen to know anything about the internet thing? Ive been to CastleCops, PCHelpForum and even my ISP and nobody has a fucken clue about it. :tear:

Thanks for everything else though and if i format again ill try those Vista links.

Are you able to go into BIOS and select the 'Boot order' of your devices?

If you can, see if they allow you to boot form your SATA drive.

So let me get this straight, u did or did not successfully get Windows installed on the SATA drive?

ATM NO, I have it installed on the old Drive and have the new one as the backup or 2nd drive.

just change the boot.ini on ur original HD

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /noexecute=optout /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

i just copy pasted myn here i'll let u work out the parameters, i aint gonna hold ur hand or anything else for that matter

Edit: it can be found here: control panel>System>advanced>Startup and recovery>Edit
