Posted April 21, 200718 yr Ok, I just went out and purchased a bunch of new computer components and built my second computer. E6300 C2D 8800 GTS 2GB of DDR2 4700 RAM Blah blah.. Anyways, I've got a question. I put arctic silver thermal compound between the cpu and the heatsink as to cool the chip off, right? Now.. looking at my motherboard, it seems to be running the cpu fan at only 2500 RPM, which is as fast as it will go... this leaves my CPU at 102 F or 39 C for you non-Americans. Is there something wrong with having the system idle at such a high temperature or are problems probably going to arise when I overclock this.. because it's still at the stock 1.86 ghz.. Also, my GPU is running at 54 C or 129 F idle.. I'm quite concerned about this because I KNOW all the fans are plugged in and should be cooling the devices off but it just doesn't seem to be working.. Any tips? (The mobo is a MSI p6n SLI motherboard)
April 21, 200718 yr hmm get a thermal paste that works? and if you over clock youll hears some nasty sounds or a fire. good luck, also try more fans or funning with the side cover off

April 22, 200718 yr If you want a better heatsink i'd recommend a zalman which in my opinion is essential for overclockers who don't want to install a water cooling setup in their pc. Just if you get it, make sure you have enough room in your case because this sucker is BIG. ALso, make sure you didn't add TOO MUCH heat paste because too much would transer the heat more adequatley to the heatsink but since its a stock heatsink, the heatsink wouldn't be able to handle all the heat coming from the cpu causing higher temps than normal for your cpu. On the other hand, too little would keep all the heat in the cpu and not enough would be transferred to the heatsink. PS its 130 sunday morning right now and im bored out of my mind so i figured id explain this shit to you even though you probabaly already know it. Peace. EDIT: link for zalman: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019

April 24, 200718 yr my computer over heats when my window / door isnt not open. I was thinking of getting liquid cooling, but the bitch costs a fuck load, and it wont support my computer unless i get a new case etc, so fans all the way tbh
April 24, 200718 yr for a cpu temp of 50 C thats hot as shit!!!!!!!! My CPU is normally 54C on load 38C on idle. 50C is not that hot for a new CPU. Firstly, thermal compound when its new is not as effective as it will be say a few months down the line. Just make sure you have your intake fan at the front, intake from the side and rear outtake fans all hooked up and getting the airflow right. Also the Zalman Aeroflower CPU coolers are awesome, I got the 9500 and i just installed the 9700 for my friend yesterday, which is bigger but not by much. Good luck

(The mobo is a MSI p6n SLI motherboard) there isn't anythign wrong with it the maximum work temp for most CPUs is about 70 decress Celcius (if ur comp stinks like burned plastic your power source's (i dunno how u call that thing ;p) fan is broken or clugged with dust ;d) i know cuz my friend had such a malfunction (the only way to change the fan i to cut wires and connect new fan and wrap the uncovered wires with isolating tape)
