Posted March 23, 200421 yr Researchers in North Carolina State University’s Department of Computer Science Monday formally announced a new data transfer protocol for the Internet that far surpasses the speeds of today’s DSL technology. Dubbed BIC-TCP, for Binary Increase Congestion Transmission Control Protocol, the technology can achieve speeds roughly 6,000 times that of DSL and 150,000 times that of current modems, according to the researchers. The key to BIC’s speed is that it uses a binary search approach – a fairly common way to search databases – that allows for rapid detection of maximum network capacities with minimal loss of information. Among other applications of the new technology, BIC-TCP has the potential to change the face of multi-user gaming. One problem that the new technology aims to solve is not taking away too much bandwidth from TCP while utilizing the full bandwidth of high-speed networks. According to the technology’s researchers, the performances demonstrated by the new protocol could become commonly available in the next few years, setting a new standard for full utilization of the Internet.
March 23, 200421 yr This article is worded wrong, compareing this protocol to DSL would be like saying a car can go 6,000 times faster then the road.
March 23, 200421 yr This article is worded wrong, compareing this protocol to DSL would be like saying a car can go 6,000 times faster then the road. They probably do this because they aim to provide it at low prices. Much like any current DSL provider does now.
March 23, 200421 yr I bet all those AOL dail-up faggots will still use dail up and lag everyone
March 23, 200421 yr I think DSL was a typo...they meant to say "diesel"..after all, it was developed in NC. So the "techies" at NCU developed an interweb protocol that will transfer data 6000 times faster than a diesel mail truck...good news for all da AOL users!
March 24, 200421 yr i have bellsouth dsl right now and its not bad but not that good either download i get 150kbs a sec if its a good website and about 215 upload speed
