Posted September 14, 200321 yr What do I need to edit in regedit to change my cd key being used by steam ? I have CS Retail
September 14, 200321 yr Registry is one way i think, just wait for a cdkeychanger to be made. Ill make one if i find the time.
September 14, 200321 yr :FIREdevil you touch me in my no-no spot. :-_-: not really steam killed changing cdkeys i believe, but someone will find a way around it
September 14, 200321 yr Author bah that's stupid. Hopefully someone finds an answer quickly
September 15, 200321 yr u cant... ther isnt anything that views the files... maybe some day in the future.. after all, steam is becoming required to play. so all the 1337 hackers will come to crack it cuz they boreded
September 15, 200321 yr phr34k is right...Steam's set up so you register with them, instead of having the key in YOUR registry for VAC to check, etc... The major issue with working with changing CD keys with Steam is going to be the fact it associates registering it with an e-mail addy...so every time you're "busted" you'll have to register and initialize Steam all over again...and it will check the e-mail addy against the database....so establish those extra e-mails, boys, and write them down somewhere, this is gonna be a pain in the ass, until Valve gets wise, and kills Steam due to all the complaints coming from their legit players.
September 15, 200321 yr as an aside...I THINK it's possible to remove the Steam installation and save it to a seperate directory, and do the whole Steam install again with different info, to get a different Steam ID and registration...might be worth the trouble to start creating and saving a bunch of registered Steam installations in their own directory, so's you can cut, copy, paste the shit over in a couple second's time, and change yer info...someone try it, and tell me how it works out.
September 15, 200321 yr yeah...in theory...I flat stated I haven't tried it...that's just a guess on what MIGHT work based on what I've seen of Steam so far.
September 18, 200321 yr I thought that Steam didn't use keycodes. Cause I didn't have Half-Life installed when I downloaded steam and I could play... That tells me that it doesn't use keycodes.
September 18, 200321 yr tells you wrong, mate...either that or Valve has been bullshitting everyone (which wouldn't be a suprise) According to Valve, steam issues a unique ID, matched to registering e-mail address, according to the key used during install. No telling how they've actually set it up, since I quit CSing about 6 months back, in favor of raging FT and BF, BUT, from what I know of the setup, the Steam ID is linked both to registry key and e-mail addy of registrar...so, you say it wasn't installed at the time, and you could still play...well, mate, unless you formatted since last install, the registry was still there for it to relate to, and Steam DOES automatically update and replace missing/out of date files.....so if you got a key in registry for HL, but have "uninstalled" HL, and go to install Steam, it will STILL find the original registry entry, and work from there, replacing ALL "missing" files (translation...get your hands on a key, inject it into registry, and Steam WILL install the complete CS/HL/TFC/Wha-the-fuck-ever-mod for you) Dude...I'm months away from the game, and I still understand what's being said and done in regards to it than you seem to be, yet you've got the balls to start running off at the mouth? Maybe you ought to figure out a little bit more about computers than "point and click" and "download the script" before starting to slam on someone...
September 18, 200321 yr Author Steam CD Key used, can simply be changed with CD Key changer 3.0 kthx. :D
October 5, 200321 yr If you are just talking about changing your CD key its super easy. just go startmenu-->Run--->regedit Then open HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Valve Half-life settings Then look for an information string named key... thats your CD key, open it to change it.
October 6, 200321 yr HEY FUCKTARD! Your WonID is based on your CD key! OMGOMGOMGOMG Meaning that if you change your CD key your WON ID changes. I can only assume the same goes for the new Steam IDs! OMGOMGOMG
