Over the last two weeks my 2003 VW Jetta (automatic) has started making several new noises.

The first only happens when I steer a tight left, I am assuming this is most likely a defective steering rack which I plan to have looked at and probably replaced.

The second noise I have only heard this last week, starting four days ago. I have only heard it three times and all three times have been approx. 3 seconds after I switch the ignition off with the car shifted in park with the hand brake disengaged. The sound is a loud vibration type noise coming from what seems the front end of the car, it is in fact so loud that it starts to vibrate the windshield right before it ends. It sounds similar to interference caused by cellphones with computer/stereo/tv speakers only much deeper and 10x louder. This sound only lasts for a period of 2-3 seconds.

Your car is just shifting to automatically adjust to the air pressure in your position above sea level. No need to worry.

your transmission is fucked up, the mechanic is going to make you replace it no matter what it is, because they enjoy fucking you in the ass.
Your Steering noise could also be a Front wheel bearing ... I know very little about VW's but you should have nothing moving after ignition termination ... It could be something as simple as your knock sensor or as bad as a Timing chain ...... Fan clutch problem ... or the fault could be in your AC system / compressor

The noise after you shutdown is your electric fan. You might have a broken blade up there.

vw's are shit, wait a little bit before they fall apart.

make sure your timing belt doesn't go, the tech manual says that it should be replaced every 60,000 miles. And if you do it yourself you're going to have to get new bolts or "stretch bolts." You torque them down to there rating and then a quarter turn more to pull the bolt in to place so it wont move. These are on the motor mounts.

If your timing belt goes your motor is junk. All the valves will end up in the cylinders :O_o: so make sure you check it

rofl, i didnt buy my jetta because i thought it was super-cool, i traded my explorer in for something that got good gas mileage.

jetta came from nyc with 15k miles, only now has i think 25k.

also, today the 2nd sound ive heard happened after i put the car in park but BEFORE i turned the ignition off. im thinking its a fan or part of a fan.

my 94 intrepid runs perfect. Our 99 VW has had so much shit wrong with it, its unbelievable. Pure crap

sourceX read my post, I believe it is your fan and possibly a cracked/ broken fan blade

This actually sounds a bad CV or wheel bearing, from my experence. Odd though this would happen in a car only 4 years old. Normally wouldn't see this issue untill the car is about 10 yrs old. Parts can fail though without age being the factor.

I know what the problem is.

You bought a VW. SILLY MAHN!!! The only true German vehicle is a BMW.

Remember: VW= HITLER'S CAR BMW= good engineering.

Beautiful LT1 man. You don't see many good looking LT1s around.

Only problem with the car is that you need an LS1...:naughty:
