Posted May 13, 200717 yr "Game cheating site implicated on multiple charges. Alleged intrusion of networks associated with Electronic Arts and Valve. Associated Press Updated: 9:45 p.m. ET May 8th, 2007. Los Angeles – Game-cheating, the use of third-party software to gain an unfair advantage in online-gaming, has met a new legal stalemate as it fights to gain acceptance as an increasingly profitable industry. According to sealed court documents, obtained from sources inside a Los Angeles County courthouse, those implicated are associated with the popular game-cheating site, Source Industries. Court documents obtained revealed the alleged were involved with various network intrusion operations resulting in compromised customer financial data and property damage. The documents alleged an unnamed number of intrusions had taken place during early 2007. Information regarding the parties involved was scarce, however according to inside sources the compromised networks were associated with Electronic Arts and Valve Corporation. This case is not the first time such allegations have been made; however, the defendants association with Source Industries may hinder the group’s push for future industry recognition as a legitimate business. Initial attempts to contact the operators of Source Industries were not responded to immediately. The future of this case remains in question with limited information available at press time, though the nature of the alleged crimes will ultimately bring the game-cheating industry under intense scrutiny. Past allegations involving the industry’s most influential members have included fraud and tax evasion, though rarely resulting in legal action by private parties or government agencies. These rebel service providers of the gaming industry, often run by young entrepreneurs in their spare time, are slowly becoming a multi-million dollar industry; despite recent fears of legal reprisal, the questionably legal actions of these cheat providers has continued to bid consumer and personal freedoms against possible profits. The outcome of these most recent allegations may be the first steps towards tighter regulations forcing an end to such corrupt internet practices. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. May 16, 200717 yr It's a crock of shit. Nobody would believe this, for many reasons. Main one though, is it's not illegal to hack in games, and people can't sue you for using/making them ...... cheating is fine - no doubt steam or someone like steam made this bullshit up to scare people.....
