Posted June 22, 200717 yr I'm downloading the Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 (just to fool around with for a bit), but the download weighs in at around 1.8 gigabytes, which means that I can't burn this onto a single CD. (I don't have a DVD burner.) So, I thought, perhaps I can install from this ISO right off the hard drive instead of going out and buying a DVD burner and burning the thing instead. Anyone with links to free software (or free trials, at any rate) that would enable me to do so? I'm very eager to try out this beta. (It's free until April 2008.)
June 22, 200717 yr I personally prefer to use Alcohol 120% but it unfortunately isn't free, if you want it free you have to do something we cannot discuss here :shifty:
June 23, 200717 yr Author You can open an ISO with WinRAR and then run the setup.exe from there. Oh really? That sounds much better than mounting an image or whatever. Thanks for the tip!
June 23, 200717 yr if you meaN formating your harddrive and installing, with out windows. it is possible but idk how. mounting an image wont work. these ppl dont know what they are talking about.

No, it worked. I mounted an image of the beta ISO and it ran fine. It installed and now I have the so-called "Server Longhorn" beta.

June 24, 200717 yr Author he wasn't talking about formatting :) Correct. The leftovers from my original operating system were still there, in a folder called Windows.old.
June 24, 200717 yr I saw from your other thread that you already have this installed but just for future use in case you don't want to clog your hd's with operating systems, jsut use a virtual machine program like Parallel's workstation or VMWare. This way you don't need to mount the image and install it to your spare hd, you can jsut install the OS to a virtual machine from the .ISO and test this server beta conveniently while running your regular operating system.

Really? I was thinking about setting up a partition for such a purpose. Thanks for the tip.
