heres a quote from the SA-MP head dev

Don't blame us. You happen to share the same class B network with Troy Van Ryan, a person with no life at all who has stated publicly that his goal is to destroy SA-MP. He provides a platform to trade in, and even sells (we have transactional evidence), SA-MP server flooding/denial of service tools that will attack every single SA-MP server.

You think we're going to lose years of hard work over a single ISP, or even 5-6 ISPs? Sorry but that's just not the case. We're getting tough for a reason. We want these people weeded out so we can concentrate on what it is we signed up for; creating a multiplayer mod for San Andreas.

--------------------------------------

And let me take this opportunity to tell you all what we've been dealing with for the past month.

1> CrazyT of Germany decides to release a patched version of SA-MP that sends fake requests to our auth server. When I send him a complaint, he asserts that we have no right to copyright on our own software. We spend several days implementing new protection for SAC.

2> Netzeek of Argentina starts DDOS attacking all the official servers and our website. These attacks continued up until 2 days ago. Currently, most of South America is banned from the sa-mp.com website and services to prevent netzeek's drones attacking us. These attacks leave the 2 most popular SA-MP servers PartyServer and LS-RP virtually shutdown.

3> OopsIDied of Texas, USA decides to release a denial of service attack tool that downloads a list of all SA-MP servers and starts attacking them by join floods. Troy Van Ryan starts selling this software on his website <censored>.net and eventually OopsIDied releases it publicly.

Did we do something wrong by people? Let's have a look:

TroyRulez007: Got angry because he was banned from the forums for cheating. Now wants to destroy SA-MP.

CrazyT: Has nothing against us afaik; wrote trainers for San Andreas and found himself some new fame as a cheat creator for SA-MP. He, along with the thousands of people that are using his cracked version of SA-MP have no regard for our work.

Netzeek: Wanted his server to be more popular, so he DDOSed all competition, which ended up including all of the official servers. He demanded his server be put on the official list before the attacks would stop.

OopsIDied: Just a troll. Thinks it's funny to write and use denial of service attack tools. He may have a financial agreement with Troy Van Ryan to make money off his denial of service attack tools. We're currently investigating this.

Meanwhile we're trying to get some new features into 0.2.2 and get it tested for release. All this with 2-3 active developers at any given time.

Why the long-winded explanation? You might want to think twice before blaming us for anything. We're beyond the point of caring.

and another guy left this comment

banning his IP is like putting your head in the sand as a solution.. it, as I said, will have minimal effect on the hacker, while affecting everyone on one of Australia's largest ISPs.

** I am told by my network specialist here @ work that authoring flood tools is very illegal in Australia.... and that all leads are canvassed by the Australian Federal Police, should you decide to report him. If you do, he is sure to lose all of his machines to evidence... can I ask that you please do this?
