I just bought a new laptop, unfortunately there were none with XP and I had to go with Vista.

So I play video poker and when I try to run the app to play (carbonpoker, same as poker.com software - which gives me same errors) I can go on a table to play and shortly after the table loads, it freezes up. The tech support for the app told me that it seems flash is terminating (which is true, I watch it happen in the task manager).

Question: What can I do to prevent flash from shutting off?

I have googled the fakk out of this and tried any and every fix for vista related flash problems to no avail. I have posted on anandtech, flash forums, windows forums, etc, etc ad naseum. So I have decided it is time to consult with the real experts which reside at myg0t.com

Please don't tell me to:

google it - already did that for about 4 days straight

install XP - I would like to but you gotta roll with the changes

tell me to download the fix at this LINK

or anything else that is ridiculous and isn't in the realm of help

Thanks in advance.

i'm guessing you installed the newest version of flash player which is compatible with vista. (versions 9.0.28.0 and up are compatible)

The easy thing to say is that maybe this app just isn't compatible with the Operating system yet and keeps running into errors under vista. Have you tried checking the event viewer to what error(s) is/are occuring every time flash freezes up?

Again, I know you don't want to hear this but, whether you're a multi-tasker or not, XP is what most people should be running, ESPECIALLY the Power users, because many programs (and games of course) are still not compatible and maybe even won't be compatible with Vista, including this poker game you're trying to run.

Me personally, along with many other members on this forum, are giving Vista and Microsoft a chance to work out the kinks and compatibility issues with its new OS until it will appeal to a majority of the general public, including power users.

My last question for you is whether you have ever ran this game under XP, to see if flash freezes this particular app under another OS besides vista? IF it does, This could indicate a problem with the app itself or with your computer and its inability to run the flash player. (I find this hard to imagine since your computer can't be THAT outdated). But you never know, and since you've been googling for awhile, i'm guessing that any suggestion could somehow help. I hope that either me or another person on this forum can solve your problem. Good luck :dunno:

Thanks for the coherent, helpful post. This must be a hidden gem in these forums lol. I have run the app successfully under xp, and tech support tells me that it is compatible with xp.

Vista error tells me that I need to install flash to run the app, which I have done many many times. I think the reason it says that is because flash terminates as I stated in first post. And vista just sees that the program needs flash, flash isnt running, so I must need to install it.

Just wondering if there is a way to sort of "lock" flash on so it doesnt terminate.
