Information about it is in that link. I can't find the original story, but this link gives most of the background information.

I'm sure a lot of you (especially Europeans) don't care about American football. However, what I am about to discuss applies to all sports, not just football. How is it possible for a team to get away with cheating, then not have to forfeit the victory? To put it simply: it isn't. I find it ridiculous that the Patriots did not have to forfeit that game, even though they were caught red handed. They were caught breaking an NFL rule to gain a competitive advantage. In most competitions (it doesn't even have to be a sports competition), if you are caught cheating, you get disqualified. For example, if I were in a bridge making competition and the rules strictly said that I could not use a certain type of wood, but I decided to anyway, I would be disqualified. This situation and that situation is more similar than you think. All the coaches in the NFL get information regarding what they can and can't do. The head coaches and general managers were sent a memo Sept. 6, 2006 stating this policy: "Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches' booth, in the locker room or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game." There it is. the rule is spelled out specifically for all the coaches and general managers. How can one interpret that incorrectly? Well it just isn't possible. Belichick can lie all he wants, but he knew exactly what he was doing. It enabled him to know what the other team was going to do before they even did it. Obviously, the information gathered in that specific game wouldn't have been used. The information gathered from games before it would have been used.

Some people have been saying that the players still had to execute the plays. I agree. However, when you know exactly where to put the football and exactly what the other team's defense is going to do, it makes things a lot easier. If one knows what is coming, it takes away the element of surprise. Taking away that element of surprise causes one to think more clearly, which in turn causes the right decision to be made most of the time. The quarterback knew where to throw the ball and the receivers knew where to run to in order to catch the ball. Quite obviously this situation makes things easier for the team to execute. I'll state it again: How do the Patriots not have to forfeit a game which they were caught cheating in?

This incident wasn't even the first time the Patriots have been suspected or caught. Last year against Green Bay, the Packer staff had to escort the same cameraman off the field because they had been tipped off by other teams around the league about this individual. The Detroit Lions made a similar claim. It doesn't even stop at video taping defensive signals. Teams are claiming that the Patriots put microphones on their defensive players in order to hear the offenses audibles. I don't know how much truth is in that accusation since they have not been caught doing it. This entire situation sickens me as a football fan and a sports fan.

I leave you with a question: how should the Patriots be penalized?

all of them cheat... why should the patriots be singled out just because they got caught?

losing draft picks = overkill

firing people = overkill

fine = sure why not... they are all rich bastards anyways

WHOOOO LET THE DOGS OUT?! WHO? WHO WHO WHO WHO? WHOOO LET THE DOGS OUT?!
There just going to get fined a shit load and lose their draft pick. They might get fined more and some people might get suspended or fired but thats all thats gonna happen. The NFL is to pussy to do anything drastic.

i think everyone who was involved should be fired, cheating is cheating. kinda like relationships once you cheat basically the relationship is fucked etc

fine is ok i guess but it has to be a lot, and idk how they can trust that they wont try it again but yeah my 2 cents

I would like to see your proof of this.

I'm not sure if I would go as far as to fire them all, but suspension for sure. Making them forfeit games they won would be harsh enough.

I would like to see your proof of this.

you want proof of someones opinion? :O_o::drool2:

I believe the patriots should be banned fro the 2007-2008 season. FUCK YOU tom brady, fuck you randy moss. the only reason randy moss has done decent in the past few games is because he got traded to a winning team(he probably knew they were cheating).
good point russell i agree suspension is probably better. i think banned from 07-08 season is good idea too

aaaaah , you dipshits sound like a bunch of whiners on a server bitching to ban the [myg0t] player for cheating .

Bellichick should be officially inducted as the newest myg0t member for master of raging !!

FYI , he didn't cheat , he broke the rules .....and everyone knows , rules are made to be broken .

GO PATS !!!

they were discussing it at halftime last night and they all agreed that this sort of thing was rampant and the only thing that set it apart was that it was recorded (and i am sure that wasnt a first either)

one of the announcers used to play for miami / was a QB and he said they knew the other teams signals / was told that if the coach dropped his red towel then the middle would be open for a TD

That is the worst comparison ever since cheating in a CS server is like cheating in a game of football you play with your friends.

You also fail at understanding rage.

i personally think foosball is really fucking gay, but they shoulda been banned for a season. they all bend the rules, but the pats went so far as to break them. the fines don't even qualify as a slap on the wrist

and thats why your opinion doesn't matter / no one cares what you think

Your Point fails at making any sense at all .

A game is a Game is a game ......... A rage is a Rage is a rage .

GO PATS

It was a one time deal Russel. They were only caught cheating once, therefore they can ONLY be held accountable for the one offence, which there coach is. He was fined $500,000 USD, and I believe the team got $250,000. Which in the end will be written off on his taxes due to "business expenses" its already being discussed all over the internets.

They will problably lose their first round draft pick next year. To be honest they really shouldnt be stripped of their pick due to the fact that its a Franchise Decision, and the franchise as a Whole did'nt commit the act, It was an organized decision made by the coaching staff to use the video of the Jets Defensive/Offensive Co-ordinators hand signals.

I believe Belichek will remeber the next time he cheats to not get caught, the guys an amazing coach, and has one of the best teams in the NFL he doesn't need to cheat. Clearly.
