son: dad, will you help me find the least common denominator in this problem?

dad: good heavens, son, don't tell me that hasn't been found. they were looking for it when i was a kid!

ok but seriously, here is a fun riddle / logic question

3 guys need to buy bread, they pay 1 dollar each.

In total there is now 3 dollars, and a fourth guy (hasn't paid) goes out to buy it.

The bread only costs $2.50, meaning 50 cents are spare. The fourth guy decides 50 cents can't be split between 3, so he decides to keep 20 cents and pays back each of the three other guys 10 cents.

The 3 guys have now actually paid 90 cents each. So, 3x90 = 270 cents. $2.70 + 20 cents (what the fourth guy kept) = $2.90.

Where has 10 cents disappeared?

it doesnt work cuz you just subtracted away the 10 cents the 3 guys payed which means now they have it in there pocket and you just took it off the total

srsly i figured it out but its SO hard to explain, i tried the best i can

nope i got it, its clear in my mind, i see why it disappeared but its hard to right it down and explain

which brings me to my next conundrum

When someone says they found the answer, do you believe them or not?

It is half full. The cup is empty in its natural state.

Yes but when it is filled it reaches a state where it is no longer empty, but when it's full and being empty'd, it will go through a state of being half empty and then empty.
