PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot PC Card Slot & Media Card Slot PC Card Slot & Smart Card Slot
December 26, 200717 yr Author This is what I'm looking at getting. http://la.gg/upl/thinpad.jpg It would be my main computer.. I would probably not be using it for much gaming at all.

All the other PCI slots are for add on cards. Sound cards, extra usb ports, ethernet cards etc... (Well there are old video cards that used PCI slots but they're way outdated) The media card slot is for the little flash cards in your digital camera and such. Same with smart cards. They do the same thing essentialy just different formats. (correct me if im wrong which i probably am) Most people will say go with XP because of all its flaws. Plus the fact that is just HUGE and takes a lot of shit to run it. Ram, CPU etc... There are options to downgrade to XP through Microsoft so if you get it with Vista just call them and they send you a disc or something i guess. Im not big on laptops but that seems like a good one. Not sure about the pricing though, but like i said im not savvy on laptops mainly just desktops.
December 26, 200717 yr Author I'm also looking at this. http://la.gg/upl/sony.jpg Because it has the NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT And then Thinkpad has the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (256MB Open GL) Plus the sony is alot cheaper. But im still deciding.
December 26, 200717 yr if your not going to be doing ANY gaming then Vista. if your going to be gaming even just a little bit, XP
December 26, 200717 yr Author Could you explain why a little bit? I am really thinking in getting the T61p But I'm stuck with the slot thingys that I dont know that difference between them. And between Vista Ultimate and XP Pro. If im doing any gaming on it. It is going to be like an RPG or Splinter Cell. Maby some SIMsomething No FPS no Racing nothing like that. I've never used any vista. So I have no idea what to expect.

Like i said it just uses up way to much. Unless you disable pretty much everything which will just make it look like 98. When i used Xp, i had maybe 30 processes when i first started up, but with Vista Ult. i have about 50 on startup. It just uses to many resources. Even if you're using it to surf the web then its using up probably 75% of your computer just running all its shit.
December 26, 200717 yr Express card slot is for all kinds of add-ons(not video card related) Its for all things that use to be PCMCIA. Wireless cards(usualy built in now), sound editing hardware and certain external drives use this. Media/Smart card slots are for memory cards(Secure Digital, MicroSD, MMC, RS-MMC, SDIO ect...) Vista will replace XP in the future, and support for XP will stop. Vista is, and will always be a POS. Get linux. Edit: If you want to read on express cards http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard
December 26, 200717 yr Author Witch one of those card slots should I go with? And I'm pretty sure I'm going with XP pro. I will prolly end up with sum linux too. The last thing is how do i get those niggers to send me the XP disc with the computer...
December 26, 200717 yr They rarely ship OS cd's anymore. When you get your system, you have to create your own disks from their recovery tools. That card slot means nothing. Take the express cuz its compatible with more shit.
December 26, 200717 yr Author So Express > Smart? And if im paying for the OS I want the fucking disc. And is the Cingular W WAN worth anything?
December 26, 200717 yr all my friends that have Vista say the same things... 1. It slows your comp down. 2. FPS goes down in games. 3. No one uses Windows Media Player so the WMP on the side is a waste. 4. Its shit. On the other hand, you know how XP works and etc. so you might as well just stick with XP, unless you want to buy Vista and wait till it gets good.

Express card cannot be placed in the same catagory as smart cards. They are not the same thing. And if you paying for the OS, you will get what they give you. Thats how it works.
December 26, 200717 yr Author Now I've been reading a bout a problem with the t61p with the Quadro. I guess when you try to play a game or any kind of 3d work. The thinkpad either just powers down or locks up. I guess it happens if you enable dream scape on vista too. That is really discouraging me from ordering one. But it kinda the one im set on. EDIT: After reading more about it, I would rather look for something else. But I don't know what.
December 26, 200717 yr AMD + ATI + Linux any of those in a combination will do you fine for anything you want to do
December 26, 200717 yr Author Nothing else really looks appealing to me. I am still considering the t61p, But I am worried about it being fucked up.
