Posted February 2, 200817 yr I just built a new computer and i ran into this really annoying problem... when i turn the computer on the cpu fan runs for a few seconds and slowly begins to stop so i turned the computer off to avoid overheating. my specs are intel core 2 quad q6600 xfx nforce 680i LT SLI motherboard xfx geforce 8600 GT XXX 256mb corsair 2048mb ram you guys have any ideas ? :dunno: and i did put the thermal paste on etc
February 2, 200817 yr Is the fan connected into the CPUFan controler? and this is normal behavior if the CPU has a low temp.
February 2, 200817 yr what does "slowly begins to stop" mean? did it stop? Did it slow down? Was is slow to begin stopping?
February 3, 200817 yr Author Is the fan connected into the CPUFan controler? and this is normal behavior if the CPU has a low temp. yeah the fans connected into the cpu controller and its normal for the fan to completely stop ? it stops like 5 seconds into starting up.. im afraid to keep it running because i don't want to overheat my cpu. i don't know if it helps but is an ultra p4 socket 775 fan, i don't know whether the fan stops running after a certain temperature or what
February 3, 200817 yr yeah, thats normal the fan wont keep running untill the motherboard sees the CPU getting hotter get a CPU temperature monitor and thats it
February 3, 200817 yr Author yeah haha it wasn't a combo i just bought individual parts i spent around like 1100 all together without the monitor. im trying to hook it up to my hdtv but it looks like shit right now haha i don't think i did it right
February 3, 200817 yr You could try plugging the fan directly into the power supply, that way the mobo can't throttle the fan back. Another option, if in fact it is the mobo throttling down the fan, is to change the settings in BIOS. There is probably an option in the power options area of your BIOS having to do with 'noise control' or fan settings or something of the like. Let me know if that helps out.

February 4, 200817 yr upgrade bios my board had the same problem when i bought it flashed bios and it ran 24/7 spinny spin
February 6, 200817 yr Don't go too big on the monitor, youtube videos/videos in general look like shit imo. 27'' - 30'' is a good size imo.
February 8, 200817 yr Author thanks for your help guys yea im just using the my hdtv in my room its a panasonic viera 27in its pretty sick i dvi'd out to hdmi on the back of the tv works great
February 10, 200817 yr This sounds like an Operating System problem. Right click and go to options; now click on the Power Settings. Configure the CPU fan to take 50% of the allotted fan power and divide the rest of the fan power among the other fans. Hope this works! :wiggle:
