I'm doing a research project for my college and I'm seeing that if we order computers off newegg instead of buying computers from gateway would be a better deal..

Here's the most budget of budget computers I could come up with on here.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=10436367&WishListTitle=Research+Computer

It's about $309 per computer (Doesn't need an optical drive, can be pulled out of the computers that we'd be replacing)

But when looking at Gateways site, they have a computer for $499 that comes with this:

Intel® Pentium Dual-Core E2180 (2.0GHz, 1MB cache non-H, 800 MHz FSB)

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (32-bit)

2048MB 667MHz dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM (2-1024MB modules)

· 320GB 7200rpm Serial ATA II/300

16x SuperMulti double-layer DVD-RW / DVD-RAM+/-R / CR-R/RW

For 14 of them, it'd be $6999.86, and I believe that our college has a deal set up with Gateway and can get discounts if we're ordering that many computers. Don't know how much though.

but no monitor.. And the cheapest monitor on the gateway site is $249 for their 17 inch LCD... :/

What do you guys think would be the better deal of the two? Because I'm going to be submitting this project when I'm done with it and might actually be replacing the 14 computers in the library with computers that are from this decade.

Banfelt;546777']not much of a research project if u dont actually know exactly what the deal the schools getting.

Just started working on it today, and I don't exactly have close ties with the dean of our college just yet.

If I had to guess though it's probably 10%

Don't go cheap when purchasing that many computers for business use. Above all else, make sure you get a 3YR WARRANTY! As with that many computers, you are guaranteed to see some hardware failure within an expected min 3yr lifespan you should get out of a work computer. Not having a warranty will result in negating any cost savings you think your getting, when harddrives, memory, monitors, etc go out.

I work in IT for a business with aboutn 1500 work PC's. We will not purchase anything without a 3yr warranty with onsite replacement and overnight parts.

So in that case I should probably stick with a pre-made computer from Gateway then instead of having our computer lab students build the computers. :/

I just want to make the price look more appealing to the Dean here so this could actually follow through.

Plus I can't stand using CRT monitors anymore. D:

Tom, I can get you that same Gateway computer for $399 from HP.

But as OMP mentioned about the warranties you will definitely want to go that route. You also need to understand that many companies like Dell/HP/Gateway have special online sites just for corporations and schools to buy off of that have special prizing available. You all should be looking at these, you just need to hope your dean isn't a complete idiot and realizes what he needs to do. Or you just better do a good job of convincing him.

For example:

and

Look at the top link first.

Thanks a ton, I'll be sure to put this in my report.

Now just to fill the rest of the 10 pages with bullshit. :P
