September 23, 200321 yr The only people who would pay a subscription for an online game is those fat, retarded bastards who play online roleplaying games like this guy..... http://www.somethingawful.com/jeffk/intarnetguido/LUNIXMAN.gif If you like spyware and being compared to the guy above, pay $50+ for the game and $10 a month and be forced to buy a new computer, because chances are, it wont run on yours. Or if you're smart, you'll either download a warez version and steal peoples accounts to play or say "Fuck you VALVe, your ride is over. Time to go bankrupt and die", and not buy the game which will never live up to your expectations make you pay $$$ big time. So fuck VALVe, ming "goosemolester" tao and their spyware/virus infested software. You should all listen to sx, he speaks the truth.
September 23, 200321 yr Author Just received this few minutes ago, I wonder what AUP rules I violated. http://www.rf-mods.com/Steam-Login-Banned.png
September 23, 200321 yr Author I'm going to be working on a few programs to help detect, log, and prevent the Steam engine from stealing information about our computers, in the near future. As well as have more information as to how Steam uses our cd-key's in association with our account's, and converting our old files into the new Steam cache platform. Just some things you can be expecting.
September 23, 200321 yr Author Anyone here who intends to buy or play, or both, Half-Life 2, NEEDS to read this thread. I also suggest the same for anyone planning or who already does, play CS v1.6: http://steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=12597 A few highlights: HL2 single player will not require you to be online, that is, until you sign onto the MP Steam network. After you login to Steam to play HL2 od CS:CZ one single time, every time after that, to play HL2 Single player, you MUST be connected to the internet or it will not work. CS:CZ & CS v1.6 and HL2 MP, do NOT come on the CD, in order to play the MP versions, CS v1.6 being ONLY MP, you must run the Steam engine included on the CD, along with the Single player, and then use it to download the MP versions from the Steam content servers. Suppsedly, you will still be able to download "pre-cached" versions, that will not need to download the MP game sicne it comes "pre-cached". An exmaple of this could be the ~340Mb SteamInstall_CS.exe file. VALVe says that by disallowing us to obtain an "hard copy" of the MP game, it will stop it from being pirated and the common problem of stolen cdkeys. I urge you all to read every page of the thread as it outlines and explains many of the questions everyone has. Edit: only a few days left before ALL 1.5 WON Auth servers go offline and everyone is REQUIRED to use Steam to download and play Hal-Life and any of its mods online.
September 23, 200321 yr Author Btw, if anyone knows of any xdcc's serving Luciano Pavarroti's new album Ti Adoro, please to let me know.

September 24, 200321 yr Why is there non-Steam information in my Steam cache files? Is Steam Spyware? Some users have seen non-Steam related information (like names of private files on their computer) show up inside their Steam cache files, raising privacy concerns. This is actually a result of the way Windows handles files. The cache file gets created on the client using the Windows CreateFile() command. This command will create the file but not initialize it. Due to the large size of the file, the Steam client does not initialize the empty data blocks in it as this can take an appreciable amount of time. On NTFS machines, files created with this method happen to have the property of appearing empty (initialized to zero) but for FAT32 machines, it shows up as whatever old data was sitting on drive in the sectors that just got allocated for the cache. This data is never uploaded or even read by the Steam client. Eventually, as Steam downloads more data, the old data is overwritten.

What prompted me to look into this entire issue was a user on my IRC network found a list of other IRC networks he often visited inside his Steam directory in a file named steam.txt.
September 24, 200321 yr I pointed all of this out long time ago when STEAM was beta testing,I made a thread about it on myg0t.com warning everyone not to use this shitware. Now everyone seems to have opened their eyes I guess :rolleyes2
