A day? You'll have to master how to create a gui, mess with the physics, code functions for a game, etc.. It will not take a day. Try a more feasible approach to learning.

Yes you have a long slog through command-line programming before you should attempt any sort of windows garbage. Google has some great tutorial sites that should help you out if you are really gung-ho and certain you want to get started. A great free compiler is dev-C++.
