Think of buying a laptop. What would you guys say is the best buy these days. Nothing too grand, jsut good enough for the latest games, doesnt have to be maxed settings. I have 2k right now for the spending.

Notebooks* and gaming do not go together. They all suck at gaming. Maybe not at first, but the next year it will be worthless to game on.

Buy a PC and save yourself the bullshit of a crappy computer.

Yeah, unless you plan on using the laptop for other things, like downloading porn when you're on a train or whatever don't get one, especially if you want it for gaming, PC's become obosolte for gaming fast enough let alone notebooks.

Definitely get a desktop if you can but if you have to have a notebook then look into the Sager NP5793, equip that with 4 GB of ram and an 8800M GTX and it will be as powerful as the average gamer's desktop and allow to run most games on high settings/high res.
I'd say spend about 1300-1400 on a laptop. Get something that has a decent nvidia card built-in. I picked up HP dv6500 for school last august. It has 2gig of ram, a core 2 duo t7100, nvidia 8400m gs. Over-all its not too bad. I can play gears of war and a whole slew of the new games on it. Keep in mind though, the more you put into performance the shorter the battery life will be.
8400 is a pile of crap... don't waste your money on it. The 8600 GT DDR3 is not bad, I would not get anything less than that. If you're going to spend like 2000 then get a notebook with an 8800M GTX.

if that's the one i'm thinking of, my friend has the same one. its pretty nice. HP now is going for a more design concept, however, but with pretty nice internals.

Yeah I like it a lot, it was nice being able to custom build it (to an extent). Thats a great option, there was no chance in hell that I'd get stuck with the intel video card. I'd rather have a piece of cardboard with "gfx" written on it sitting in my laptop, then one of those.
Get a labtop some where besides best buy. I hate best buy they know nothing. Buy one online.:sleep2:

my laptop is 8600m/4 gig ram/core 2 duo t7500 and the battery life is around 3.5 hours

basically just a more portable desktop replacement that i can take to school

i wouldn't spend 2,000 on any computer.. laptop or desktop.. the further you buy to front end the more money you waste in the long run because you get massively raped on cost vs. performance and as soon as something better comes out price plummets

just spend ~1200 on a laptop instead of ~2000 for one that is marginally better
