I have a older HP I use in my basement at times to surf. It has been sitting idle for a while so I decided to use it the other day. It booted fine and all was well but I noticed it wasn't detecting my usb wireless. The lights on the usb linksys were on so it had power. I decided to just unplug the usb and replug back in and then it had no power to it.

I have XP Pro installed on it. I plugged in other things into the remaining usb ports and nothing. I went into bio's and they all say enabled and not showing of any errors. I decided to just reformat and see if it had a driver issue possibly but after all that still same issue. The serial ports also seem to be down also. Is it possible the mother board usb fuse took a dump?

It being an HP, doesnt surprise me that there are funky issues with it.

What you should do is make sure you're running its original OS it came with.

Also, HP might need a special driver to work that card.

It came with OS ME. I have already tried to reformat it and use the original windows ME cd the pc originally came with. I still had the usb issues. I guess I will try to find some sort of usb doctor program I can run on it to see if it does indeed need a driver update.

I just find it weird that when I unplugged the usb and plugged it back in it no longer had power making me think a short or fuse issue.

You'll need a specific *** brandname driver for this card.

Use a ps/2 adapter for it if you have one.

Did it ever work? Or were you using a different mouse before?

who said anything about a mouse?

The usb's are all saying they are up and running in bio's. The only thing the pc hits is a scanner that was hooked up to it before. The thing is it still doesnt run. I plug in the scanner and it sees it as new equipment but the actual scanner doesn't run. When I try to add any new device to any of the usb ports nothing shows. I reformatted yet once again and kept the original OS on it and notta.

Is there something I can type in run or bios to find what type of usb card I have? I also tried to run a cd that came with the pc for drivers but it had nothing listed for usb. Its no a big deal as I will just strip all the drives and such from it and put it in something else someday. I have a old linksys router I plugged into the ethernet to see if I could maybe bridge it to my other router and it doesn't even see that.

Thanks Myraid for even looking.

Take this PC to an area where you can connect the ethernet cable to the modem or router directly.

Go to http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/fr/default.asp

Let them scan ur system, download the hardware updates it provides for you.

Yeah that seems like the last thing I can do with it. I will try it soon. Thanks all for the info.

I use to work for HP, hold HP's do not work with new USB bullshit.

You're not going to get this working like this.

Get a USB 2.0 PCI card or some shit for 9$
