I've been saving money for a little while now and I want to buy two weapons, a pistol and a rifle. should I buy:

pistols

desert eagle

or

m1911 .45 auto

or

9mm glock

rifles

kar98k

or

armalite m15 (AR-15)

or

G3

or

M14

I desire to have the pistol for self defense and the rifle for sporting/marksmanship tourneys

If this is going to be your first firearm, then go with the 9mm Glock. I have one myself and they can be very reliable and fun to shoot.(and that is coming from someone that isn't a big fan of Glock) It will be LOT cheaper to shoot than the .45, which will mean you will shoot it more.

As for the desert Eagle, if you are referring to the .50, then don't bother. It's useless and you will rarely shoot it due to price, and retarded-ness of a pistol that weighs so much/has so much recoil.

As for the long guns, also depends on how much you want to spend. Some of those you listed are VERY expensive depending on condition and model. If you want something fun and cheap, then go with the AR15. .223 is cheap, little recoil, and can still be a lot of fun to shoot things with outside. If price isn't as much of an issue, then you can't go wrong with the M14's. I own a Springfield SOCOM II, and LOVE it. 7.62 gets a little more expensive to shoot, but I find it more fun. It will cost you a good amount more than an AR (I paid about $2,300USD for mine w/ extended top rail.)

Both m14 and AR would be a good all round sport gun, and the Glock or 1911 would be good protection and fun to shoot.

If you want me to pick just one of each then I go with the Glock, for it's cheapness to shoot/maintain and still being a lot of fun. I think it would be a much better first firearm over the 1911. I'm sure all the counter-strike kids will chime in and say go for the .45 for its "knock down" power ect., but people robbing your house aren't going to be wearing body armor and the 9mm will work just fine.

For the long guns I would go with a Springfield SOCOM II (hehe I recommend mine to everyone!, it's amazing). If the price is an issue, then go with a good ar15.

Just my 2c.

Jedi Pimp;568160']Nice over exaggeration there. If you can pay hundreds of dollars for a gun and then bitch about a $3-$6 dollar difference for a 50 count box of ammo then you're a fucking douche bag.

Also, your logic is asinine because you are basically telling him to pick his gun based on ammo prices.

Well I shoot almost every day, and at least every other day. So that difference in price adds up over the years. $6 different for 50, times 2 each time. Times 4 times a week = $ 50USD per week. Times 52 weeks a year = $2600 a year shooting .45 over 9mm. Times the number of years you own the weapon...

Also - when he is looking for a first firearm, ammo price should be a large consideration. Most people on this forum are quite young, and don't have very high paying jobs. If he can't afford to shoot the weapon often, he will stop using it, or not use it very much.

So you can call me a douche bag, but you obviously shoot very little if you don't consider ammo prices.

As I said, it was just my 2 cents. To each their own.

Jedi Pimp;568160']Also' date=' your logic is asinine because you are basically telling him to pick his gun based on ammo prices.[/quote']

It's kind of important. That's like buying a car and not taking into consideration the price of gas (aka, mpg).

I shoot my .22's all day long and have a good time doing so, I get 550 rounds for $14 and it'll knock over a can just as well as a .45 will. I hear my friends complain about ammo prices all the time; even the one that dropped $1400 on a kimber.

But since he's doing it for tournaments the .45 is going to be the best choice (so I'm told), apparently the bullet can be much more accurate than the smaller calibers. This is coming from my friend with the kimber who does do competitions; I just like to go plinking.

Pistol wise, I'd say fuck the glock 9mm. Don't get me wrong its a nice light round, but it won't necessarily put someone down as as a 50 or 45 caliber round. Rifle wise, I'd say ar15 or m14. Get something that can also fire a 5.56 Nato round, as well as a .223. The armalite has a slightly shorter barrel then the m14. Also, I've seen the m14 used commonly as a semi-auto sniper rifle with the US army.

Also, this might have some relevance in this thread also; here's some quotes from a 2004 FBI report...

In one case, the subject attacked the officer with a knife. The officer shot the individual four times in the chest; then, his weapon malfunctioned. The offender continued to walk toward the officer. After the officer cleared his weapon, he fired again and struck the subject in the chest. Only then did the offender drop the knife. This individual was hit five times with 230-grain, .45-caliber hollow-point ammunition and never fell to the ground. The offender later stated, “The wounds felt like bee stings.”

In another case, officers fired six .40-caliber, hollow-point rounds at a subject who pointed a gun at them. Each of the six rounds hit the individual with no visible effect. The seventh round severed his spinal cord, and the offender fell to the ground, dropping his weapon. This entire firefight was captured by several officers’ in-car video cameras

In a final case, the subject shot the victim officer in the chest with a handgun and fled. The officer, wearing a bullet-resistant vest, returned gunfire. The officer’s partner observed the incident and also fired at the offender. Subsequent investigation determined that the individual was hit 13 times and, yet, ran several blocks to a gang member’s house. He later said, “I was so scared by all those shots; it sounded like the Fourth of July.” Again, according to the subject, his wounds “only started to hurt when I woke up in the hospital.” The officers had used 9-millimeter, department-issued ammunition.

Don't even get a desert eagle... waste of money completely

Jedi Pimp;568163']Perm banned for ban evading.

Who was it?

yeah, i like that a .45ACP has great stopping power, and i really like .223 and 5.56NATO. Now I am thinking of a .44 magnum S&W revolver.
Jedi Pimp;568222']Back on topic. ...If you live in the USA, then I suggest you buy the assault rifle before they are banned. There is talk of reinstating the Federal Assault Weapons Ban.

Unfortunately, I live in the Republic of Kalifornia, and most all assault weapons are banned. It's retarded how the liberal democrats fucked over gun owners in this state.

I really wanted to buy a gun but in NYC mayor is curbing gun sale.

it's done! i got the AR-15 (with flash suppresor and extendable stock), however I had to find a more recent model of the .45. cost me less than 3k's. ty for the input =)
Great choice on the guns man! Which make of the ar-15 did you get? Bushmaster, Rock River, Stag Arms?

For a pistol, get a Colt 1911.

For a rifle..

If you're going to go to sporting/marksmanship tournaments, are you fucking retarded?

Get a Remington Model 700(M24) in .300 Win. Mag or .308, unless you're a pussy and want to get an AR because you can't take the recoil. If you're going to be shooting in tournaments, ammo prices shouldn't be a big deal because you should be reloading your own shit.

A Kar98 isn't really the epitome of accuracy anymore, I don't see why you'd want to use it in tournaments.

One bullet from anything will take the average individual down. It's a fucking bullet, traveling HOW FAST? Yeah.

300 meters/second = 0.186411 miles/second = 671.080888 miles/hour

Assume deceleration time of 0.01 second.

Acceleration a = v - u / t = 300 - 0 / 0.01 = 30,000 meters/second/second

F = ma

Assume mass of bullet is 9 grams = 0.009 kilograms

F = ma = 0.009 x 30,000 = 180N for a Glock bullet per hit.

Like getting hit by a 40 pound mass.

Try shotgun pellets.

I don't give a shit how tough you THINK you are, getting shot is a whole new experience. If you get shot, you are going down. No discussion.

A 9mm lacks the stopping power that a 40 S&W, or 45 round has. Don't get me wrong a well placed shot with a 9mm could do the job, but lets think realistically. In the position where you're going to need to defend yourself, the average person isn't going to be marksman.

please read the thread, and more specifically read my posts, and even more specifically read my post where I quoted an FBI report that deals specifically with people being shot numerous times.

I stood infront of a minigun and took many hits before completely jumping out of the way I'm pretty tough man.
