In America only the extreme right and left seem to bother voting, this is a HUGE problem as the majority of you claim that you are not responsible for the actions of your own government.

Some Americans are so interesting and intelligent. Then there are so many at the other end of the scale (MAURICE for example).

silly nigger still thought voting counts

Americans have both. :naughty:

Yeah, but the US invaded Iraq because nuclear, not chemical which was stated in the thread.

President Bush had a grudge on Saddam and wanted him dead. He also wanted free oil. So he killed 2 birds with one invasion.

Your an idiot MAURICE. Australia is not part of Europe, so it looks like I'm safe.

In America, the vote is only to show popularity, which today means jack. We rely on an electoral college thats been in place since the birth of our country. It was set up because there was a huge chunk of US citizens that were uneducated on the political situation. The only time that a vote would rely on the US citizens, is if it couldn't settled in the house or senate.

Do more research before you start criticizing.

Thanks for pointing this out, I made the silly assumption that American democracy was similar to Australian democracy. After doing a little reading I found that I was way off.

I doubt I will bother educating myself further in this area as I have better things to do.

Democracy is suppose to be a simple thing. You vote for local representatives (that belong to particular parties) and the party that has the most representatives

takes control of government. It is up to the party members to vote for a leader (President / Prime Minister). I believe any addition to this simple model corrupts it.

Anyway, couldn't care less about politics, the point is that the American government/military wanted to test deadly weapons on Australian citizens. Australia is suppose to be one of Americas closest allies, why treat us like that?.

TEST YOU CHEMICAL WEAPONS ON YOUR ENEMIES INSTEAD, OK.

...The military is CONTROLLED BY POLITICS. Saying you couldn't care less about politics and then worrying about what our military/GOVERNMENT(POLITICS, ANYONE?!) does is kind of contradictory...

What I meant is that I don't care about the political process. I don't even vote.

Also, sometime I think it is the other way around. The military decides its time to go to war and it is the governments job to convince the public that its the right thing to do.

You're still stupid. Voting for your leaders implies representation which is a republic not a democracy.

What I described was the Australian political process (a small part of it) and we are NOT a republic, we are a democracy.

But after reading this

I see what you are saying. My previous explanation did not go into party politics or the different levels of government. Needles to say, its majority rules.

By pointing this out you have hurt my ego.

That's why the U.S. Congress was split into the House of Representatives ( for states with large populations ) and the Senate ( 2 representatives for each state, for smaller states )...
