That's sweet, but I don't think that buying a Phenom is the best choice in the world. I've read all the benches.. I'm not saying it's a bad rig, though.

July 20, 200816 yr Myriad;575121']All factors counted' date=' its still better to buy this CPU than anything Intel has.[/quote'] Are you entirely sure? The L2 cache is puny in AMD's CPUs. I've read all the game benchmarks and I always see the Core 2 Extremes or the E8500/E8400 at the top. Remember, I'm not dissing your rig.

Remember, I'm not dissing your rig. I've seen the benchmarks, and the Phenom is a slight bit slower than Intel's equivalent chips. I don't realy care about speed on my CPU, since matching their video cards with the CPU saved me money and the video card is currently the highest performing card. AMD does not beat intel in benchmarks or even clock speed/processing power. I take AMD for the price(a hell of a lot cheaper) and the power consumption with the cool&quiet stuff. I also like rubbing it into Intel fanboys faces when my system completely destroys theirs in gaming. A guy I know just got a brand new intel/nvidia system and cannot run the games I am playing at the same settings. My settings are maxed, and his lags with the same settings. So I laugh at him. Btw, the last time I owned an Intel was 1995, I switched to AMD, loved it, and havent had any problems with any CPU I ever purchased from them. If it wasn't for AMD, you Intel suckers...buyers would still be paying $1600 for each CPU.

Well, you see, I hate nVidia aswell (I really want a 4850), but I'm looking at an E8400 (45nm, it overclocks from 3 to 4GHz on stock cooling). It's only $180 on Newegg and I'd hate to say that it's kicking AMD up the asshole. An Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition costs $160 or so on Newegg. Read those benches and tell me which one is the smarter choice.
July 21, 200816 yr Oh, silly me. I didn't read the X4 9850 benches. I guess you win, Myriad. :happysad:
July 21, 200816 yr Author I don't understand why you would go for a 2xcore. Makes alot more sense to go with either model with a 4xcore. Oh, and the smarter choice is always AMD.
July 21, 200816 yr Myriad;575349']Oh' date=' and the smarter choice is always AMD.[/quote'] Well duh. That's their slogan.
July 21, 200816 yr Author Its not the better CPU. I got it at 1/2 price, and a free videocard. Even if I didn't get a good price I would still have gotten AMD though.

July 21, 200816 yr Author How? Been shopping at the same place for 8 years. Built 100's of computers through them. I buy direct from the warehouse and get reward points through their retailer. I spent my reward points and got a birthday present from them. That's why this system was so cheap.

July 21, 200816 yr Author Interesting. You're quite the computer geek. I'm just awesome, that is all.
July 22, 200816 yr Myriad;575511']I'm just awesome' date=' that is all.[/b'] Now wait... Why would I want a quad core? Just for a 10 fps boost? Games haven't been able to take advantage of all cores. They rely on higher clock speed and L2 cache size more than more cores. Besides, the X4 9850 is $205. I could be getting more frames with a P35 + E8400 for less money. Apparently, AMD is not the smarter choice at the moment.
July 23, 200816 yr Author Then buy the system and see for yourself. Games don't use all 4 cores, you're right about that. I am running only a game? Never, there's always a lot more going on than a game. Not getting a quad is not a good choice. For pennies in difference there's no point in buying less. For intel or amd.

Are you saying that I have to "future-proof" my rig? That never works. If I were to build, it would be primarily for games. I don't need a billion things going on.
July 24, 200816 yr Author That never works. You've got to be kidding. The only thing you can do to make your system last at least 2 years for games is to buy the strongest CPU available.
July 27, 200816 yr Myriad;575926']You've got to be kidding. The only thing you can do to make your system last at least 2 years for games is to buy the strongest CPU available. Seriously, why a quad core? Dual core powerhouses are what perform best in games at this moment. I'm not a super movie maker dude that needs to encode his files in under 5 minutes. You're being quite irrational. An E8400 will last a good while. Oh, and the E8400 now dropped down to $175 and the E8500 is now $190. One more thing. The CPU won't provide an incredible advantage in gaming performance. The video card will. Then again, an E8400 has gotten over 20 FPS of an advantage in some games than the Athlon 64 X2 6400+. That's due to the fact that the E8400 has a beefy L2 cache and has 45nm technology. Edited July 27, 200816 yr by [myg0t]ph0ne

Read the benches and prices for fuck's sake. Your processor costs $205 vs. E8400 costing $175. $30 difference. In some games, the 9850 will outperform the E8400 by a few measly frames, according to the benches. The CPU won't help you as much as the GPU in games. Quad core + game = ahead of its time.

So you're telling me your video card is going to calculate physics? The point of getting a powerful CPU to be ahead of the times. Are you broke? damn dude, just get the PC you want if you think the few frames isn't worth it(on todays games). You can always just upgrade again... wait a sec, you're complaining about some 30$....
