I. Introduction

So you want to rage a source-based multiplayer game and you are having some difficulty or you are not getting any results? When a person is “raged”, they are extremely angry and very upset, and they express it by either using text chat or their microphone. The best way to achieve rage is by specifically harassing people who are prone to being annoyed and who are willing to communicate back. It is still very possible to rage without making any changes to the game. Voice annoys, cheats, exploits, glitches, and configurations definitely increase the chance of somebody getting raged.

So, what is the point of raging people? There is not a correct answer for this question. Some people do it for sheer pleasure; some do it to add replay value to the game.

II. Recommended Materials

Here are some recommended materials.

Here is a link to some resources:

Voice Annoy

Anybody can make a voice annoy, but it must be converted to a specific format.

Here are some programs that can easily play music and switch sounds:

Alternatively, here is a simple configuration (rename sound file to voice_input and put in counter-strike source directory):

List of already made voice annoys:

Sprays

A spray is a decal that a player can spray by hitting t by default. Sprays will not work when a player is “unconnected”.

Cheats

Cheating is when a player uses a program that modifies the game to give that player an advantage over the other players. Public cheats are released to the public and can be easily detected by anti-cheating measures; while private cheats users must pay to use but they are usually better quality and they have less of a chance to be detected by anti cheating measures. Cheating can lead to getting banned from all VAC2 servers.

Configurations / Scripts

Configurations can be used to make doing certain tasks ingame easier. For instance, bind l “buy flashbang” automatically buys a flashbang instead of having to go through the buy menu to buy it.

III. Administrators[/u][/b]

Administrators are players that regulate the server by kicking, muting, killing, and even banning players that fail to abide by the rules of a server. Always try to avoid admin at all costs because they will kick/ban/mute if a person breaks the rules.

There are different ways to avoid admins and check to see if there are admins in a server. First, check the server’s info and check for a clan tag that relates to the name of the server. For instance, a server named “Silent Killer’s Playhouse” will have members of the clan named “[sK]John_Doe”. Most likely, those clan members are admins or most likely can easily contact an admin. Sometimes it can be none of those cases. Do not be fooled if somebody claims to be an admin… they are most likely bluffing because if they were an admin they would have already done something about any problem. Also, letters will indicate the status of a clan member (ie [sK][A]John_Doe indicates player is an admin… other letters: [T]-trial member, [L]- leader of clan, [R]- recruit). It can be hard to determine if there is an admin on the server if the admin does not have a tag to indicate that he is in fact one. By first connecting to a server and waiting for an admin to text chat or by clues such as listening to voice chat can determine if there is one on the server. An admin can execute commands such as changing the map or teleporting and it will display on text chat. If the admin does not reveal himself to a player, then a player can provoke him by messing with objectives (ie killing hostages) or talking bad to another player. Even then admins can sometimes refuse to reveal themselves until the player gets caught breaking a serious rule.

A risky way to try to get rid of an administrator is by stealing their name. A user can steal any player’s name if they wanted to. Specifically target people with a space(s) in their name. Pick a player, open up console, and type in status. Look for the person on the list and copy their name. Then type in setinfo name “[person’s name]” and then delete the space and replace it with alt+0160. Admins with little or no experience have a %50 percent chance of removing themselves in game. Experienced admins will know their own steam id.

IV. Techniques

IVa. General

What the rager must first understand is that by directly interfering with gameplay will make the players angry. Keep this in mind when trying to come up with new ways to rage: “How can I directly interfere with a player’s gameplay that will stop them from playing the game normally?” Here is an example: Voice Annoying is not a good way to directly annoy a player and it can easily be stopped if the player has no sound or if they uncheck voice enabled. Another example is text spamming… it can be used but it does not affect gameplay if a player ignores text chat. Things like team killing a player constantly or blocking a doorway directly affect a player and they are most likely to get annoyed.

The size of the server is something to consider. Servers with lots of players (40-64) also have a better chance of having an admin in them. There is also more of a chance that people who regular a server know the admins and can quickly call them over. Smaller servers are considered to be better targets because they might not have filters, autokicking mechanisms, and whatnot to deter rage.

Go to console and type in setinfo name “” to become unconnected. You can get banned from some servers instantly for doing this. You can not be muted by any players. The unconnected player will not be able to use sprays.

When people start becoming raged, always answer back to them using a mic or text chat. Answer back with trash talk in a thought out way… do not spit back insults because that will not always work. If a rager does not talk back to them then the person who is getting raged may feel like they are talking to a brick wall and they will stop talking. Not only will talking back to them acknowledge the rager’s presence, but the person who is getting raged will in turn get angrier.

Play voice annoys. Sometimes it is not wise to keep the voice annoy running. People will not respond to a player if they keep it running. If you must keep it running, use voice_loopback 0 while the clip is playing to record other player’s responses without any interference.

Spam chat using a config or by hitting binds. Sometimes the server has an anti spam mod.

Doorblocking is a good technique to use if a no-blocking mod is disabled and the map permits it. Just stand in front of a door and let nobody through. It is best to use in combination with other methods. If there is a door with the knob animation a player can just keep hitting the use button and the door will never open.

Kill fellow teammates constantly if FF is on. Best if done on a server that does not have a limit on TKs.

Impair teammate's view by just standing in front of a player and keep on blocking his view. There are other game specific ways to do impair a player’s view, an example being to block a sniper’s scope.

If you decide not to be unconnected, pick a discrete name. Another suggestion is to steal other player’s names. Blend in with the other players and have a lower case name with normal characters with nothing too long either. Having an all caps name with special characters will make it easy to identify a player in the status list and in the other lists. A name like “XXXJOHN_DOE_LMAOXXX” is easier to identify then a name like “johndoe”. Clan tags also make people easier to see. Get rid of the brackets if a clan tag is used. If a player decides to use [myg0t] in their name, they will get banned in many servers instantly. Create an unbracketed variation of it, such as “my got”.

IVb. Counterstrike: Source

Target all talk servers and servers with friendly fire on. Any server is rageable though… Utilize becoming unconnected. Teamflash at the beginning of rounds as much as possible. Use cheats if they are available. Block snipers’ scopes. Follow around people who use their mics a lot and block their line of site. In fact, specifically target one person with a mic and harass them for results. Stand in front of them, flashbang, use smoke grenades if they are sniping. Try to be the last one alive and hide until the end of the round is over. Mess around with the objectives… like throwing the bomb to an unreachable place or by killing hostages.

There are a lot of different maps which bring different gameplay types, such as surf maps and deathrun maps.

In surf maps stay in the spawn and camp inside if deathmatch is off. Also, block other people in surfing if noblock is off. It is helpful to know some maps. For example, there is a map that by hitting a button will kill all the people who are in spawn. Exploit this button to keep on killing people who have just died and they respawned. Otherwise, follow the general guidelines for cs:s.

Some deathrun maps a player can just stay in spawn. Block other players from reaching ledges and block any alleyways/doors if noblock is disabled. Follow the general cs:s guidelines.

In zombie servers destroy people’s barricades, and block entrances/exits. Block people from reaching good camping spots by standing over edges or ladders. Follow the general cs:s guidelines.

There are also climbing type maps available. If there is noblock disabled, prevent people from climbing to the finish. What will make people really raged is if a rager gets to the end and blocks another player from getting to it. Follow the general cs:s guidelines.

There are plenty of other gameplay modes and maps… use your imagination to rage people.

IVc. Day of Defeat: Source

There is not much to do here except for follow the general guidelines.

There are no maps that change the actual gameplay. Block other people’s views, constantly teamkill. Sometimes servers have a teamkill limit, so attack a player until they have low health… that will make people angry. Throw smokes in front of persons who camp in an area.

IVd. Half-Life 2: Deathmatch

The deathmatch servers are not as rewarding to rage as the puzzle, cooperative, building, and RP maps. Remember to stick to a few people who use their mics the most.

In puzzle maps, deter the advancement of the players by removing objects or blocking them. If a player is building a bridge across to the end then just take pieces from right under their feet. Also, in some servers players can use the gravity gun and an object to knock people off to their death. Stay hidden for a little while, and then when they get close to the finish then knock the players off and destroy the bridge. Block portals and doorways to the exit with items that are spawn able. Get to the cranes in the puzzles first when the portal is activated. Make all the players get inside the crates and then have your ways with them…

Most cooperative maps are poorly designed, and have narrow hallways and doors at the start of their maps or at some point in their maps. Take advantage of this and block the entire server from getting into the map. Get ahead of the team and try not getting killed and once they reach the area of interest, they will be blocked from going any further. These maps have infinite time limit and will not end until the map is completed.

In building type maps, sv_cheats 1 is turned on. Servers like Phoneburnia and Mikes Revenge host these maps. Create your own scripts to be able to easily spam objects. Also, interfere with other people’s creations by freezing objects around/ontop of them. It is also wise to steal players’ names because the name of the person will show up when the object is highlighted with the crosshairs. Remember to stick to harassing only a select few people.

In RP maps, always be the law enforcement job. They can put people into jail and use weapons to kill anyone. Block doors that people use the most.

V. Whats Next?

So you are finally raging some players. So…what next? Find a buddy or two to help you for some extra fun. You might want to create collages and videos to help you remember those special moments. Collages are easy…. take screenshots of rage. To make videos, follow [myg0t]Leopulse’s tutorial at: http://forums.myg0t.com/showthread.php?t=29779.

Some guidelines to making a great rage video:

-if you are calling it a rage video, make sure to only add raged people in your video

-cut out unnecessary and irrelevant scenes out of the video. Do not cut out too much of a clip so the viewer understand what you are doing to make the players mad

-The video should not be too long but not too short. Less than 10 minutes, more than 3 minutes

- Keep common phrases out of the video like “shut the fuck up” unless the next guideline applies to it

-More people screaming at you better. Definitely add these clips to your video

that's not entirely true

In my experience, raging DOD:S is much easier than CS:S. Friendly fire is on for the majority of servers, more people have mics, etc.. My favorite tactic is to be the MG class, mount my MG in spawn, and fire away on teammates. You have ample ammunition and lots of damage in your hands.

One thing you can also do to annoy people is when they're talking (and if you have a mic), you put the mic directly to your speakers and press the voice key while they're taking. A friend and I were doing this to some faggot on a surf server while he was trying to play music, and he got pretty pissed (i.e. making threats, using insults, raising his voice, etc.).
