fixed.

I have never served in the IZ or A-Stan. Chances are I will get to spend some time in A-stan, but it may not be for a while (around a year) due to schools for my new MOS I will be lat-moving into in Dec.

War is not a video game, where you go around bragging about the number of human lives you have ended.

Another reason is that most of the time you will not know who killed the target. You will be with your squad, squad takes fire from a position. Squad returns fire on said position until the threat is satisfactorily neutralized, or until air/artillery support can be called in. Who can say who's bullet was the one that killed the haji?

It is not one vs one battles like in a video game. Once you are under fire, you and every other swinging dick with a rifle is unloading upon the position the fire came from. You may be the one to get the kill, maybe it was the machine gunner next to you, maybe it was any of the other hundreds of rounds flying in that direction, who knows.

Respect your friends privacy and memories. Do not go bugging him for such information. No Marine or soldier I have ever met will want to discuss having taken a life, nor would I. As I said before, war isn't a video game. The ones you hear in the bar talking about their "confirmed kills" while trying to pick up a chick are the fobbits who spent their time there jacking off and making coffee.

Why have you joined the military? Is it because of some sort of loyalty or devotion you feel towards your country? You have chosen to kill for a colored cloth that hangs on poles. You are worthless and your actions in duty will amount to nothing. There is no honor to be gotten from voluntarily ending the lives of others because your government decides to engage in a conflict of ideas. Let the world solve its own problems. We must learn to love each other and not kill! With time the other countries will advance to the same notion. Let us be honorable to mankind and be the first country to completely dissolve all military functions, including active wars, foreign bases, and any other occupation of US troops. This is the only way to obtain peace. War is NOT peace. Remember my words.

You are not the individual being discussed in this thread.

it said captain. i dont believe it is referring to captian, since there is an obvious difference in spelling.

The implication of Captian is obvious, especially after Malum has corrected Zealot and Zealot acquiesced. It is advisable to minimize your losses and discontinue posting in this thread.

Now that is the truth. The only people who brag about killing others are the fucked up hood rats that go around bragging that they capped some guy's ass for stealing their shit.... Yo.

Friend just got back from Afghanistan, needless to say he's seen some pretty messed up shit, and he doesn't really like to talk about it, and I don't blame him. I only heard one story from him, and he had to shoot a kid. Not fun.

GO PICK SOME FLOWERS OR SOMETHING YOU FAGGOT HIPPIE

Jedi Pimp;590319']Why do you even bother to ask him these questions? You obviously do not care to have a deeper understanding of his choices, or want to better understand what he will be doing in the military.

Your actions are obvious in the canned responses to your own questions, and your sentiment is further reinforced by your follow up statement that could easily paint you as some sort of atheist or anti American.

He chose a path in life that he felt was best for him, as do the rest of us. You may not agree with his choices in life, but to call the man worthless seems unwarranted.

Your attack on him directly contradicts your later statements about being honorable to mankind. Also, who says that he is going to kill anyone. There are a number of roles in the military that do not require killing anyone. There are plenty of logistical positions that need filling to directly support the front-line troops. it is estimated that for every front-line troop there are 2-3 logistical people in the rear supporting them.

I will finish by saying that your outlook on this situation is short sided given the fact that you seem to be basing your arguments on the current military doctrine driven by the current Bush administration.

IMHO - Military service is an honorable duty that calls to a few in each generation, and it is those few who help preserve our way of life. It is also a way for those individuals to provide for their families in a different way than how you or I provide for our families.

To clarify my view I will qualify my position.

What drives someone to join the military in the first place? This I would like to know. But as I said I suspect it is for loyalty to the country. What else would one expect the military to do other than actions of violence? It does not matter if you are the one in a position to kill or have killed anyone. By joining the military you have accepted the possibility that you may have to kill for whatever reason that your superior has given. I think there are two reasons that I am against militarism. One is that I am uncomfortable taking commands from another. The other is that I am 100% against killing in all circumstances.

I admit that I strongly disagree with Captian's morals in that he exhibits patriotism and militarism. I do not find either belief appealing as my agenda is one of global unity and peace. I cannot imagine why someone would not want a peaceful world, but that is not the discussion. Yes I do disagree with him, but I would not deny him kindness that a fellow human ought to owe another, nor would I claim to hate him. I would like to repudiate my statement that he is worthless, as that was in bad taste. Instead I would like to say that his choices in life are, though minutely, contributing to a stall in the advancement in worldwide cooperation and agreement.

On a related note, it seems we agree that war is not like a video game, i.e. it does not have entertainment value. It is unfair then that a government should force its citizens to participate in one. I'm not just referring to the Bush administration. Both current presidential candidates have plans for war. McCain wants to stay in Iraq, while Obama wants to move the focus to Afghanistan and Pakistan. War in any form will only cause resentment in the losing people. The end of one war will just lead to the start of another. Theoretically the only way to end war is to just give in and call a stop to it. Question: does anyone on these forums actually care if the war is "lost" in Iraq? Or would you prefer that it is just over with?

I'd say 90% of my fellow soldiers/sailors/airmen are in the military for the opportunities provided and not solely patriotism. Whether it be because they had no other job opportunities, or they were poor and wanted a better life, for the Montgomery GI bill, or the chance to travel, or family tradition etc. You do have your 10% of people who are in because they are patriots who want to serve their country (not that that isn't an underlying factor in the other 90%, but it's not their primary reason for the majority).

But to be honest, your ideal universe with peace and love everywhere is the biggest crock of fantasy ever. Those of us in reality realize that global conflict is unavoidable, and that to protect our nation and our assets at home and abroad we require a military. Whether or not our current president used that military properly is a null point, because you're arguing against a military period.

To sum this all up:

You're a fucking dillusional hippie.

I would prefer that we not be engaged in any war, and I do not view a withdrawal from Iraq as being a defeat.

ahahahaha Its pretty hard to lose against three ragheads with guns.

Jedi Pimp;590335']don't look now but those 3 ragheads have managed to take out 4185 coalition troops so far.

yeah those 4185 rednecks were distracted looking for road kill at the time.
