Posted December 11, 200816 yr Is anyone else going to see Valkyrie? Seems like a pretty good movie imo Valkyrie is a 2008 historical thriller film directed by Bryan Singer and starring Tom Cruise. The film is based on the July 20 plot of German army officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Cruise will portray the leader of the plot, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. Cruise's casting caused controversy among German politicians and members of Stauffenberg's family due to the actor's practice of Scientology, though German newspapers and filmmakers gave support to the film to spread global awareness of von Stauffenberg's attempted plot. The filmmakers of Valkyrie initially had difficulty setting up filming locations in Germany, but they were later given leeway to film in locations pertaining to the film's story, such as Berlin's historic Bendlerblock. The release date for Valkyrie has changed numerous times, including a brief move to February 14, 2009. December 13, 200816 yr I saw a preview of the movie. I couldn't take it seriously because it didn't feel authentic. Because Cruise is a scientologist it's a double insult to Germany because Germany views scientology as a cult not as an organized religion. I have many other problems with the movie so I will just cut this short and say it blows. Leave the movie making about such things to German crews since they churn out higher quality movies.

The prob with Tom Cruise, besides being shitbat crazy with his Scientology bullshit is the fact that no matter what role he plays he is Tom Cruise doing the role. He is a movie star first and an actor second. Think how much better the Mission Impossible movies could have been. Very rarely has he broken through roles and become an actor. Some semi-recent notable exceptions where he has acted well have been Born on the 4th of July, Magnollia, and most recently Tropic Thunder. Obviously, Top Gun pushed him into the limelight, so anything before Top Gun i would argue he acted fairly well. I'll wait for Valkyrie to hit video. very perceptive valkyrie was decent, nothing spectacular
January 8, 200916 yr I saw it and was greatly disappointing that Tom Cruise was in it. In my opinion he ruined the movie. Movie had a good plot, some great action scenes, etc, but Tom Cruise just had to fuck all that up being a shinning American golden boy.
