December 26, 200816 yr Jedi Pimp;601824']yes, but not all plans offer loans. in my plan you can take out a loan of up to 50% of your balance if you have been in the plan at least 5 years. what happens is they sell off some of your positions in whater funds/bonds you are in and cut you a check. Then you will have a repayment plan, that you have up to 5 years to repay what you borrowed. Your employer then deducts this amount monthly/biweekly depending on how you get paid until the loan is repaid. As you repay the loan the funds purchase back stocks/bonds in your portfolio with the additional 8% finance charge for taking the loan. so right now i have a loan that im repaying myself back at 8% interest while the fucking market is tanking. with the additional cost of repaying the loan on my paycheck, I have reduced my 401 contributions to $0 until my loan is payed off. I dont get company matching funds though, but the loan repayment is more than i was contributing anyways. Plus since i am buying back stocks/bonds in while the market is shit, i have a greater growth potential on my money. Woah, that's so cool...all you're doing is paying yourself back with interest.
