January 15, 200916 yr Any thoughts? I think it's a good alternative to i7. It still doesn't compete with i7. It does compete well with penryn, however. We will have to see what happens after Intel's rumored aggressive price cuts. -Better power consumption. -Doesn't require you to spend a lot on a new mobo or RAM. -Improved overclockability. -Decent price point. -load and idle power is higher than i7 and load power is higher than penryn -good, but irrelevant when comparing to penryn -I hope so since the original phenom was pretty fail in this department -the selling point for it at the moment, but this is pending the rumored price cuts by Intel this month This month is good for both Intel and AMD fans. However, it is worth note that AMD is still an entire cycle behind Intel. Edited January 15, 200916 yr by Russell_Crowe

AMD's price cuts in response were pretty good. The 920 is now $195 and the 940BE is now $235. The first fully AM3 mobo was released aswell.

They needed to respond like that. IT'S PRICE WARS NOW! I've got to admit that I do enjoy price wars because the consumer wins.
