April 6, 200916 yr Author Myriad;616765']wrong wrong wrong this shows how much noobs actually know about software I didn't say that LINUX was for poor niggers or minimalists. Its open source opportunities are vast, but Ubuntu is fairly dumbed down, and I wouldn't use it for anything more than basic internet, email, and music purposes. My experience with Wine can be summed up in one sentence: IT DOESN'T FUNCTION PROPERLY. Wine is too glitchy, and just plain slow. Windows, on the other hand, works wonderfully for me. It runs everything I need, and is so compatible with everything. If it's working fine for me right now, there's no reason to switch to something else. Whatever. No need for elitism, unless it deals with rape. knobjockey;616767']windows is fine fuck fucking around for like 20 minutes doing something that would take 2 seconds in a windows enviroment. You just don't have any clue as to what you're talking about. If you did know about linux, you would scrap windows as a desktop all together and only use it for games the cedega doesnt yet support.

I tried running Half-Life through Wine but it refused to open. Also, apps through wine just look graphically terrible as opposed to running them on Windows. And yes, I have drivers for my card. However, they are only proprietary. I can't imagine what ATI users have to go through to get it working on their systems. I just use what works best for me. I'm not going to go through a shitload of trouble trying to find the right drivers and whatnot to get Linux doing what it is that I really want it to do. I just want a simple Plug n' Play approach. If you aren't down with that, good for you.

Also Wine is not for gaming, its for running most windows programs under linux, if you want to play games you would really need to use Cedega, but they are only adding newer games to the system. Also, if you can't install a graphics driver properly on a *nix system you should just turn off your computer. This "I can't imagine what ATI users have to go through to get it working on their systems." Also shows your noob-ness, takes 30 seconds to install the ATI propriatery driver under a linux environment. Not 5 minutes + restart in windows. Easier than windows : Go to ati site, download driver rpm Open terminal, type : rpm -iv --force fglrx*.rpm wait 30 seconds done, enjoy...

Does it make me more of a man to be all 1337 h4x0r and use the Terminal? Windows does what I want, and I'm happy with that. Linux didn't do what I wanted, so I'm going to ignore it. My Windows copy was free anyway, as my tech friend gave it to me as a gift. What now?
