hi trusted myg0t technical advisers. i have a good delima. i have some extra money sitting around that i am thinking of spending. i am thinking of dropping 300-700$ for a new sound system. i live in a dorm room and space is sort of an issuer. should i get some good speakers to plug into my deskt top or a set of really good headphones? i had the bose quiet comfort 1 headphones back in the day but they are broken. any suggestions/ thoughts on which way i should go? speakers or headphones? any suggestions on what models of either?
Why would you waste that much money on any type of sound system for your computer?

Its been a few years since I lived in a dorm but let me offer some relevant advice:

If you want to get laid or have girls over in the dorm, you want a nice speaker system so you can play music and have your room known as a good hang out spot.

If you want to hang out with your platonic friends in your room you'd also benefit from having a good sound system.

If you don't want to be social, spend hundreds of dollars on sweet headphones and be the guy who is known for sitting at his computer and blocking everything else out.

Either way, you're going to want some decent headphones so you don't disturb your roommate or neighbors, whatever may be the case. Usually they bust your balls pretty hard for making noise late at night, and you don't want to get written up or whatever. Just remember that a dorm is a high priced baby sitting service and a nice sound system will likely penetrate the walls and doors and cause problems late at night, especially if you're drinking underage at the same time.

My last suggestion is that you should, under almost NO circumstance, live in the dorms past your freshman year. Its great to be in an environment with a lot of people your age when you're getting acclimated to college life, but you really begin to feel like its a drag calling a place home that you really have no property rights over. RA's or whatever your school call them will fuck up your day for partying, even if you're doing so like a responsible adult. Make friends and find an apartment the next year. Its usually cheaper or the same price, you can still get a meal plan if you REALLY love campus cafeterias, and you'll have real property rights and you can party or smoke or do whatever the fuck you want with no real authority to answer to (within reason, if you have 100 people over you might run into some problems).

I found out the hard way after getting kicked out of the dorms my sophomore year and basically living in a one way house for the last couple months of the school year, which was pay by the day. Not one of the brightest hours of my life, but quite an experience nonetheless.

If you don't want to be social, spend hundreds of dollars on sweet headphones and be the guy who is known for sitting at his computer and blocking everything else out.
