Posted April 25, 201113 yr Old news, yet no fucking thread on this yet: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104353-Valve-Confirms-DotA-2-for-2011 Valve has finally announced that it's working on a game called DotA 2 after rumors previously indicated that the studio was throwing its hat into the world of Defense of the Ancients, a massively popular action-RTS gameplay style that first popped up in a user-created map for Warcraft III. A DotA developer named "IceFrog" joined Valve last year and Valve followed it up with a DotA trademark filing two months ago, so the announcement is anything but a surprise. Overall, it looks like Valve is putting together another huge game that has its origins in the modding community. DotA 2 will be released on the PC and Mac in 2011. Valve doesn't plan on changing what DotA players are used to, with DotA 2 set to bring over DotA AllStars's 100+ hero roster, the same map, items, skills, and upgrade paths. In DotA 2, these aspects will only be freed from the constraints put on them by the WarCraft III engine thanks to the use of Valve's Source engine instead. THIS WILL MEAN LOTS OF POTENTIAL!!!!!!!!! +VOICE TOO Further, DotA 2 adds integrated voice chat, AI bots that take over for disconnected players, and new community-based features that not only reward participation, but should also ease DotA's intrinsically created negative attitude towards new players HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Edit: Release postponed until 2012. http://www.dota-two.com/valve-announcement.html April 1, 2011 - Dota Team Dear Dota Community, I am sorry to inform you that I have been assigned the heavy duty of informing the community of DOTA 2's release date delay. We here at Valve are really sorry for this outcome as we respect the Dota Community and understand that this must come as a shock to you all but be assured that we tried everything possible to avoid this delay. Yet, that proved impossible due to the complexity of the game, the high end graphic interface, the Steam server updates and the quality product we want to deliver from day one to you. We would like to inform you that the new release date for DOTA 2 has been set to midyear 2012. Furthermore, regarding the incident with the misleading post at our official Facebook and Twitter page, as most of you understood it was due to a human error. Two employees were communicating through the company e-mail system and accidentally slipped some information through the announcement system while prepairing todays news. They would like to personally apologize for the temportary joy that this post might have brought to you. We are sorry for not being able to elaborate more on specific reasons for this at this time. We wish for your understanding and patience. Yours sincerely, Doug Lombard¡ VP of Marketing Valve Software hahahahaha Consider this my "call-to-arms" thread to each and every one of you fine soldiers here and there and out there. May 10, 201113 yr Over the years no game, not even counter-strike, was as easy to rage as DotA. Don't even need hacks or voice chat between other players to do it either. Kids literally flip the fuck out over the smallest things. You're forced to play with 4 strangers if you just pug matches. I used to have an archive of screen shots of people raging + replays. you can make a force staff to push your team mates into certain death, as Tiny you can throw them into the entire enemy team. You can intentionally block them and get them killed, destroy their items, sell their items, tell the other team their location, leech their farm, their experience, steal their kills, sleep them for 10 seconds with Bane and get them killed that way, teleport them into areas of the map where they can't get out of and must sit all game, and of course, intentionally feed while disguising it and completely throw the game. The list of ways to rage these fucking dog eating chinks is literally endless. But I will admit I do play it competitively (the original DotA) while just using alternate names/accounts on bnet whenever I feel like just fucking around. Can't wait for DotA2. Although it won't be nearly the rage machine the original was, classic intentional feed and throw the game while telling your own team whats best will still work like clockwork. Can't fucking wait for this game. Damn I got a semi typing all that out.
May 11, 201113 yr I still have a replay where i blocked the shit out of some guy who was running for his life. He thought he was real pro, and after my block got him killed he spent the next 30 minutes telling me in all caps how I am going to be IP banned and how my career at dota is over. If editing wc3 replays wasn't such a pain in the ass I would put it up in the rage section of these forums. Maybe I'll fuck around with it over the summer.
