blocky']ive never heard of that video card either

and your mobo does suck

get a Asus A7N8x

find me one for under $80, mate..that has 4X/8X AGP, RAID1 and 0 support, etc...I couldn't find an Asus that had the same stats for under $93...Asus own MSI, definately..but MSI is reliable enough, and cheap ($73+S&H for that one)...as I said, 90% of this stuff is coming as gifts...I had to keep prices in the ranges family can spend...lil bro's a chef...lil sis has new hubby, new kid, same old job, and wife and kids are spending MY money...with agreed upon limits.

As for the graffy card...don't ask me, ask Sapphire...I just picked a mid-price one of the list of possibilites brother-in-law sent me...it handles DX9 and OpenGL2.0, is 4X/8X, and has a decent clock speed for proc and RAM, stock...128MB of RAM @700MHz looks good to me, compared to the g4 4600 in this thing currently :)

dat's what it sez in list specs...will test it and post the results when I get and install the card, because now you've got ME wondering, too....I haven't been able to find another card with these specs anywhere else, either...

all I can say is "weird, but I don't think it *could* be a fake listing..a fuckup, maybe"..at any rate, since that's the one I told him to get me, it'll be interesting to see just what I get, won't it?

won't be showing anything off for a couple weeks :(

I managed to talk my family into dedicating my XMAS to doing a total upgrade...

So far, I'm going to:

  • AMD 3200 "barton"
    MSI KT6 delta LSR mobo
    • 6 rear USB, two front configurable USB, on board NIC, 5.1 dolby audio codec, 5PCI, 1 AGP 4X/8X, power offset for AGP...other "toys"

3X512 sticks PC3200 DDR

ATI Radeon 9850 ultra 128 MB (475MHz proc, 700 MHz DDRRAM)

Maxtor 160 gig 7200 RPM HD

Audigy 2 Platinum sound card with bay-mounted docking station

Volcano extreme all copper 80mm heat sink

Antec Turbo 7 blower fan (the turbine shaped one with no dead spot in airflow)

Thermaltake bay mounted temp display/6 fan rheostat fan controller

three fan bay mounted HDD cooler setup (Thermaltake)

it's possible that my folks will be throwing a watercooling kit in the mix, but doubtful...if I don't get it for Xmas, I'll be adding it myself this coming summer.

At any rate, until I got the toys installed, I'm probably gonna mess with appearance, but not host/post anything until I got the doodads to show off :)

Correct me if I'm wrong...Your FOLKS? You depend on your folks to get you a computar machene for christmas? I thought you were some network administrator, has a wife and kid and been in military. But come on man, your rents must be in retirement home by now and you should be the one giving gifts... what bullcrap.

lol Techno...I'm relying on my family to cover an upgrade this time, yes.

No, it's not that I can't afford to do it myself...but it'd take me a good 3 months to save enough "spare cash" to do ALL those changes in one "upgrade", rather than piece at a time...you gotta remember, I'm making about $45K a year from the job, and have a "primary" income that's dependant on portfolio dividends, I'm going to school, have 3 kids, and a wife...

Between my portfolio, and my income from the current job, I bring in about $6.2K a month, currently...but that's if I ration the payouts from the portfolio over the course of a quarter...so towards the end of a fiscal quarter, I'm ALWAYS pretty close to broke, when it comes to liquid assets...household bills, car payments, and such, alone, eat up about $3K a month, I can't touch my tax fund, ESPECIALLY this time of year, and, being that December is the end of the quarter, the way I have things set up, most of the remaining income from last quarter's dividends got spent on Xmas for family members.

You gotta realize..I'm not "rich"...I was just smart enough to put enough aside that I could afford to not work, and go to school, until the economy took a shit...and THEN I had to get a part time job in IT.

you make 45K a year and can't afford to upgrade your machine?? components these days can be bought dirt cheap, don't use your financial problems as a scapegoat, they sound too irrational. And what are you doing hanging around myg0t forums all day long if you're plagued with debt? I'm not saying you're not allowed, but if you have issues that need attention, this is the last place to be wasting time in.

no issues that need attention...just no $765 to spare until after hollidays :)

And, FYI...$45k a year (or even $70K a year, which is closer to what my actual income is, including capital gains) isn't squat to raise a family of five on :)

Do the math yourself...medical insurance for five, tuition, books, homeowner's insurance, car payments, full coverage auto insurance, standard bills, dual cable internet accounts, digital cable, food, etc...then the fact that I enjoy a decent standard of living, as does my wife.

We own the house outright, but aside from that, trust me, the income is nowhere near what wer were used to before I went back to school.

OK now back to the topic....lets see some desktops....:)
Decent standard of living...lmao. Dude if what you say is true and you're whining about money problems, sit down for a moment and go over your expenses. You should have taken a course in accounting instead of computer related shit.
You said that cause you wanted to it counted as a favour.. and it was my turn :(

Who's whining, Techno...you asked why I was trying to con my family into buying what amounts to a new system for me for Xmas, instead of buying it myself...I answered.

If I was concerned enough about it to do it myself all in one step, instead of over three or four months (or instead of talking my family into getting me shit I'll fucking USE, instead of the usual horseshit gifts), all I'd have to do is decide I'd rather have a new comp than work on my streeter this month, or cop off a couple ski/snowboard trips.

Like I said, I'm not hurting, in any sense of the word, financially...but I'm not so rich I can do whatever the hell I want whenever the mood hits me...I have to function within SOME sort of budget.

BTW...do some research yourself, mate...$25K, after taxes, for a capital gains income is signifigant...average gains this year for normal investors (meaning me, and the other middle class folks out there) is about 5%...

Translation: I own my home lien free, AND managed to have better than $400K in a standard portfolio, after two years of not working (I went back to working PART TME this year, mostly to get some time in the field to pad my resume with, so that I don't have to work a CCNA level job or entry progging, after graduating, like most people do), so I could attend school full time...this doesn't count my IRA or 401K holdings, since I can't touch those for YEARS yet...it's not a "shortage of money" that prevents me from getting myself a new system, at all...it's the fact that it's not important enough to me to either sacrifice one of my other hobbies, or take it out of dedicated funds...it's simply easier, right now, to talk my family into getting me what I want, within reason, as gifts, so I actually ENJOY my Xmas gifts for once (you have no idea how tired I am of getting bottles of Chrome cologne, and gift cards to the Gap or Abercrombie for gifts...and I haven't once used the cappucino maker my folks got me last year...it's easier to buy a mocha at a Tony's or Starbucks).

I noted the stuff to begin with because *I* thought that as an "organized gift list", it works out to a pretty kick ass machine for me to play on that costs me nothing but the assembly time, and OS installs....

Frankly, if *I* were to decide it was worthwhile to go out and buy top end components, instead of doing the other shit I enjoy, I'd be running a dual intel board with SATA support, RAID0 and 1, in a vapochill subzero case..and get a nice big tax write-off for doing so...but so far, it hasn't been worth slowing the work on my project car by about 5 grand to build my "dream machine" to play games and post on forums on...and since I'm making bupkiss from coding so far, and could do the remote access duties I need for my job off an old PII machine, if I needed to, it's not worth doing it for "buisness" reasons...

  • 3 weeks later...
that computer sounds shit and you obviously know nothign about computers from your choice of 'average' mobo, way overpriced being the 'top end' and bad clocker CPU

also all your blower shit is pointless it wont make any difference, and as i said ur cpu will not clock at all and that also makes w/c pointless.

Well done ur well cool, cojmpletet waste on money distinctly average machine trying to be el leet

Hey Xeno...just as an FYI...got exactly the mobo I was expecting...the MSI KT6 Delta LSR...absolutely no issues with install, SATA support (2 drives), RAID 0 and 1, 8USB (6 on board rear, two "jacked" fronts)...you never DID get back to me with another $80 mobo with 6 on board USB, capacity for two more, RAID 0 and 1 support and SATA support...plus the board you referred to as "mid range" in quality is rated higher on benchmarks than all but thre ASUS 32 bit AMD supporting single proc motherboards...all of which cost close to twice as much...and buyer's guides are showing higher satisfaction on the MSI than the comperable ASUS models....

Also...the CPU installed fine..no "clocking" issues in the elast...currently running at 215 MHz base frequency (430 FSB with the DDR3200 in it also slightly overclocked), multiplier at 11, for a total speed of 2365MHz, and I haven't even had to muck with voltage values yet...it's outperforming a stock 3200 already with ZERO heat issues, even during benchmark testing (higest proc temp measured was 67 degrees celcius, after a sustained 5 minutes at 100% proc useage...it's rated for operating safely up to 72C, stock). Watercooling hasn't even been nesseccary yet (though I'll still need it when I get around to overclocking the system further, after the graphics card arrives).

NOW you want to try and tell me I "didn't know shit about computers" when choosing my parts for cost AND effectiveness?

That winamp skin fucking rules ass npor.. I use the same one... probably the best looking skin for winamp there is..

oh, and can we all stop being such raged pussies? who cares if you think his comp is ghei secks or not.. its his fuckin comp and its up to him how he wants it. Save teh rage for the pub nubs.
