btw the nvidia detonator 52.13 drivers for hl2 were leaked again by anon i dont know whether they improve performance or not tho

 

btw the hl1 port is shit afaik and not worth the download

hmmmmmm got the Beta. Just seems to freeze on the grey loading screen? Do i need to do anything before i run it?

Running GF4ti 4345 drivers, AMD XP2000, DX9b, 512MBDDR. Does it just take an age to load? Can i force the DX8 path?

Maybe this will help:

To run Windowed: -sw -startwindowed -window -windowed

 

For ATI Cards: Run the exe with options -console -dx9 -width 1024 -height 768 -fullscreen

(Providing you have directx9 installed, otherwise replace -dx9 with -dx8)

 

For Nvidia Cards: -console -dxlevel 90 -shaderdll shader_nvfx_ps20.dll -width 1024 -height 768 -fullscreen

 

For standard dx9 codepath: -console -dxlevel 90 -width 1024 -height 768 -fullscreen

(unsure what this relates to, stick to the ones above)

 

You may want to add -heapsize 128000 or 256000 -- the game seems to use a default heapsize of 40 megs.

This is the amount of memory that will be reserved for hl2 in kilobytes.

Ill give it another go, im just thinking that that is the path for the FX series of cards, considering it commands DX9 and Shader 2.0

Anyone also not getting to run certain maps like e3_hl2logo or e3_c17_01 maps? The maps that I can't even run don't even show up on the console. If I try to force run teh maps in the console, I get this error.

map load failed: e3_hl2logo not found or invalid

 

Its not that I don't have them. The bsp's are there in the map folder. Anyone know how to fix this?

They are zipped/compiled in the in an earlier format.

 

If u change the version bsp from 17 in 18 in hex editor, u get the next error, "odd lumb format"

make a "start.bat" in "hl2.exe" folder and try this, seems to work fine with my crap gfx card. Also modify textures from 32 to 16 bit in the option menu etc.

 

hl2 -condebug -mat_preloadshaders -preload -console -toconsole -dx8 -fullscreen -shaderdll shader_nvfx_ps20.dll -width 800 -height 600 +map d3_c17_13.bsp -heapsize 256000

most people think that not all the maps work in HL2, wrong i have ran and played all of half life 2's maps! and play d1_town_05, it scared the shit out of me!

hey guys, i have hl2 right but not the patch, does the patch do anything and whats the dif beetween the 113 one and the 120 one?

and new game doesnt work for me just stand there how do i load up a working map cause i went create game and then it goes to lvl but crashes at desktop can anyone help?

Been doing that but there is no information on how to use some of the new stuff. Have to just go by trial and error. And it gets frustrating.
