I was wondering, what makes everyone want to use linux for a home pc, what would be the point of that. theres almost no games no applications so what the fuck do you do just sit there and look at it or is it the fad of computer nerds to say you use linux?

There are thousands of applications for UNIX based systems, and hundreds more games -- ok, nothing like Half-Life, etc. but you can run Windows games through an emulator like Wine with relative ease.

your stable on windows XP as long as you dont fuck with your shit and windows XP instead of everything crashing only the programs crash but if you got a stable nice program then you will be fine but linux is cool cause almost everything is open source infact 99% of everything you download your gonna end up compileing anyways i like open source shit thats why i will be releasing my hacks source code ( public version ) when its done

 

also linux is great for hideing your porn becuase your parents will never know how to navigate the hard drive they will be like " OMFG OMFG WHERE IS MY COUPTER WHERE IS C:\ " and you pron is safe i only know 1 person at my school that runs linux 24/7 and dosnt even have a windows machine

and because he uses linux he automatically thinks he is "superior " to me even tho in class i was messing with gay html in internet explorer in the url bar you can do

Well, I can't speak for others, but I run Linux because it has an integral SDK, Webserver, and STMP mail server, among other things, available in the OS without spending a single extra cent, plus it's handy to be able to switch to linux side, download patches or remove infected fles and such that are being stubborn with XP. Example...rather than getting frustrated and pissy when MSBlast hit my home PC, making it impossible to stay up while online long enough to get the freakin' patch, I simply rebooted into redhat, hit symantch's site, used the link to the patch, downloaded the patch to floppy, then rebooted without networking into XP, installed the patch, fixed all my shit, and went on my merry way...total time spent fixing a problem I know some people STILL haven't fixed=<2 minutes

 

It's just handy to have around, honestly...I'm no linux looney, I just like having a backup system to rely on, and something less well known I can boot into when needed, plus the fact that I philosophically believe in open source/open information projects.
