i'm trying to get QUAKE 1 to work with DOSBOX but it just quits to desktop when i start it, who knows a way to play dos games without making an extra partition for win98

Hmm, maybe try all options in the "MS Prog." box.

Or check the quake.exe for CMD Line options -> like "quake -r -runthefuckunderxp etc"

if your formatting is in NTFS, no DOS program will run under it...you need a FAT32 partition.

If you HAVE a FAT32 partition, then it should run fine from command line, as long as you start it with cmd.exe, instead of the start button/run button method.

if this shit don't help, sry, but it's the best answer I could give with the limited info offered

Techno_Warrior']XP Pro SP1 on FAT32 :O_o:

I can run fine in Quake with XP Pro sp1 in NTFS but quake is installed under fat32 harddrive
