February 11, 200520 yr Depends what you need a PC for. For a person interested in gaming, definitely go PC. Even for common business/school work, go with a PC. For high-end graphics and multimedia, web design, and other professional applications along those lines, its all about apple. Overall, apples do process a lot faster then PCs. Even though the listed processor speeds of apples are slower (fastest apple processor out right now is a 2.5ghz i believe), they have faster bus speeds, more cache, etc, thus making them overall faster then intel/AMD processors.

The bus speed of an amd64 system is the same as its clock speed (due to the on-die memory controller). my FX-55 has a bus speed of 2.6 ghz. The G5 2.5 ghz has something like 1.25 ghz. so much for that. Also, they both have 1 meg chaches. some high end intels have 2 meg chaches. The Power PC architecture is more efficient than intel's x86, but not as efficient as AMD's architecture. A (low end) AMD 64 could wipe the floor with a G5 2.5 ghz in most apps. If i was building a graphics/mutimedia PC, i'd go with an intel 580 based system, not a mac. (intels tend to be better for graphics/multimedia than AMDs, which are better at number-crunching and games)
February 11, 200520 yr I agree with the AMD being way better for gaming and stuff along those lines, theres simply no argument there. However, regarding the quality/performance of apple, you have to take into consideration what you get for what you pay. Where I live in Canada, its about 1100 dollars for an AMD 64bit fx55 chip. Thats just the CPU alone. So even though AMD does kick ass, its high end stuff is barely affordable. For an apple though, they are expensive, but still affordable in comparison to an fx55 system. For a multimedia machine, intel does have its advantages, but I would rather have an apple as they tend to be the industry standard for multimedia design. 2500 cdn will buy you a very nice apple. That amount of money would also buy you a very nice Intel/Pentium based PC. A PC based on an AMD 64 bit fx55 however, would cost way more, as the top of the line AMD parts are still overpriced. Yes you do get what you pay for, but not too many people are going to be willing to cough up 1100 CDN dollars for just the CPU. Overall, AMD does make great processors, but the price needs to go way down. Multimedia/Web Design - Apple General Computing/Low end gaming - Intel/Pentium High End Gaming/Performance - AMD (needs to be more affordable though)

Multimedia/Web Design - Apple General Computing/Low end gaming - Intel/Pentium High End Gaming/Performance - AMD (needs to be more affordable though) AMDs are less expenisve than intels The FX-55 is hardly typical pricing for an AMD system. take a look at this, it's 1/3 the price and would perform 80-85% as well. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-498&depa=0 it's also 90nm, it would overclock like a bitch. Apples are very overpriced in my opinion. mainly beause of the whole "dual processor" shit. it is basically beacuse the single proc machines can't hold a candle to single processor PCs. my 2.9k FX-55 system is $500 cheaper than a single 1.8 ghz g5. (if you factor in the fact that mine has built in RAID and you'd need an incredibly expenive card to do the same with a mac- not to mention the fact that the g5 only has 2 hard drive bays compared to around 6 in an average PC these days) A more comparable system, the Dual 1.8, costs $1000 more than mine. ($3924 USD) and mine is pretty damn overpriced from the start.
February 11, 200520 yr OK, ok as official judge here I have to say that APPLE PWNS YUO ALL. HAHAHA, anyways I am a happy mac user, but when my mac broke i built a decent pc system for $1500. So there's no comparison there, for a decent mac you'll be shelling out at least $2500......But they're purdy looking....HAHAHA All prices in CAD.

February 11, 200520 yr u should ask if they can give u RAM in like a (1024x1)mb sticks...i have only 1gb of RAM n its in one stick which is better in my opinion cuz then u get some extra space to add more in later on

Good DDR RAM has timings of 2-2-2-5. The best DDR2 out as of now has timings of 4-4-4-12. So stick with DDR.
