'sides, its not the OS that I am concerned about, but the other components of my computer. Specs:  2.6 Ghz Pentium IV 512 DDR RAM 120 Gig Hard Drive Radeon 9700 128 Video Card Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro Sound Card Flat Screen 15" Monitor Those are the only things I care about when it comes to picking a computer. Other than that, anything goes.

March 21, 200520 yr running VMware's Vmachine for linux in a redhat9.1 box worked for me for ages, with XP installed in the Vmachine for gaming, but when I did my last reformat, I got lazy (and my 90 day trial on VMware had expired, and I didn't feel like going through the bullshit to scam another temp liscense), and just installed XP on the fresh format  Linux (especially the debian and slackware distros) is a passable OS, just not convenient for gaming (even with a virtual machine running windows, it gets buggy, and WINEX just plain sucks)...for corporate use, I'd support Linux every time, and I prefer Linux servers...for a home PC, until they start making games with linux compatibility options, windows is still gonna be better.
