I do not use Linux. As always, I am faithful to my Windows OS. 'sides, its not the OS that I am concerned about, but the other components of my computer.

Specs:

2.6 Ghz Pentium IV

512 DDR RAM

120 Gig Hard Drive

Radeon 9700 128 Video Card

Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro Sound Card

Flat Screen 15" Monitor

Those are the only things I care about when it comes to picking a computer. Other than that, anything goes.

miens almost the same

windows xp

2.8 ghz

512 ddr ram

40 gig hard drive

radeon 9600 126 mb

lcd 15 inch

it's ok sx he's good entertainment. probably a skinny ass nerd who thinks he can pick fights over the internet, not realizing we're all behind monitors, and if it were real life he would be sent to the emergency room with compound fractures to his whole body.

Im using an AMD64 Gentoo install. I'm not fond of the whole M$ world, but I'm not emotional like some people can get. Im testing the latest x64 Windows release candidate and its got its good points and bad.

So far no issues playing what I want to play in Linux, mostly cedega stuff (for steam) but I play quite a few native games too. Sorry for getting techie, just weighing in.

Debian roxors

Seconded. Haven't had one piece of spyware or adware in my computer since I removed IE over a year ago. Plus it removed MS Agent, the speech api, the os/2 subsystem, the posix subsystem, the windows tour...all the useless shit I dont need.

Huh, dayvid? what's Debian got to do with removing IE?

Debian's not a browser, you tool! It's a linux distro...an OS that's Linux based...the distro names are basically like naming the differences between 95, 98, 98SE, NT, ME, NT2K, and XP

to make it simple:

Mandrake is the linux version of 98SE (simple to use for a noob linux user, semi-stable, holes in the stock GUI and basic security measures)

Redhat is basically like 95/98...fewer holes, but still some holes in it, more customizeable, a bit clunkier, at times, but still easy to use for the n00b

Debian would about match NT/NT2K for stability and usability

Slackware would be about the equivalent of XP...much more easily used, much prettier, and capable of being used for recreational purposes easier than Debian, though slightly less suitable for server and admin uses

(only *slightly*, as all Linux is superior for admin and server uses, in my eyes, since the OS can be stripped to bare bones much more easily, and even when not, isn't anywhere NEAR the resource hog MS operating systems are)

This isn't exactly true to life descriptions, as you can change GUIs in all Linux distros, recompile your kernel, switch kernels, and so on, so you CAN run Redhat and have it as pretty and use-adaptable as Slackware's stock setup, as secure as Debian's, and as n00b-friendly as Mandrake...and it STILL won't be even as much a resource hog as 98SE, generally :)

Is he admitting to being a jackass? :ughwtf:

anyway, I have a debian sarge dual booting with XP Pro on an

amd64 3800+

2Ghz FSB

1 Gig Dual Channel mem.

80 Gb HD <- completely unfitting for my system, 250 is coming in the mail

21" LCD monitor

chub, that was trying to explain distro names to the n00bs and morons...LOL

there's no real way to align a linux distro with a particular MS distro.

Fedora core3 is basically "redhat 10.3", as the shut down redhat project, and wrote a new kernel based on it from scratch when they started "fedora"..or maybe it should be aligned as "redhat 13"...I dunno if core3 is 3rd upgrade of version one, or third version.

Either way, it's basically a "new users friendly" flavor of Linux, designed for ease of use in both GUI and command line, and ease of maintenance.

I just thought you should know:

Regardless of whatever argument you may have, you are a fool. Why? Because you are arguing with a myg0t member... on the myg0t forums. The reasons this is vain and stupid are candidly obvious.
