Your right I am, someone visited here and thats how this file got started. If your using Internet explorer it is stored in your temp internet file folder as showthread.php?t=1567

check it yourself or am i the only idiot?

you seriously are the biggest idiot ever to grace these forums. even the flamming spam homosexuals have some knoledge.

you do not have a virus

echo j | format c: (my title atm) tricks norton into thinking you have a virus that formats your hard drive, ie the title bat.quickformat.trojan.

its our little way of saying, GET A REAL FUCKING ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM YOU FAGGOT OR DONT USE ONE AT ALL !

mthanks

DeStrux... .bat files are batch files...ascii text files that could be used to string bunches of DOS commands together in a single bit of executable, back in the DOS/winshell days

basically, if you write any notepad document with DOS commands in it, then save it as "gobbletygook.bat" in your root file, you can then click on the file, or just type its name in command line, and it "executes"

so...to make this clear...XP command line program default starts at %winroot%:\Documents and Settings\%current user% (usually C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>....if I were to make a notepad document that said:

echo off

cd..

cd..

cd program files

cd ea games

cd battlefield 1942

battlefield 1942.exe

echo "game started"

and place this file in my %winroot%\Documents and Settings\%useraccount% file under the name "battlefield", I could close explorer after opening command line, type "battlefield" and it would reply "game started" in the "DOS box" and start the game...basically, batch files made it so you could type a list of commands you knew you'd use alot ONE TIME, and execute them with a single line....

OK...history lesson done...now, as to why a virus alert comes up...

echo j | format c:\ is a "trigger event" since there were a rash of virii out ages and ages ago that were .bat files that overrode the "can't format, this is the only copy of the OS found" safeties in Windows...in other words, USUALLY, a Windows OS won't allow you to format the root drive unless the copy of the OS currently running had been started elsewhere (like from a boot disk)...these batch files overrode that safety....and were being sent out as autoexecutable batch files (batch files the machine runs without user telling it to)...so Norton's and McAffee's, and several other "simple to use" anti-virus programs included monitoring for these lines in any ASCII text documents downloaded....

WELL...if you put a trigger line in any sort of logged format, your machine logs it into temp internet files as an ascii format text document log.....which naturally triggers this outdated virus warning.

NOW do you get it?

this guy knows what it does just dont talk to him he just trying to waste your time.

well guess what I,m not trying to waste anyones time. I just freaked because every time I came to this site mcafee freaked out and said it couldnt deleate or fix the file so I would delete it manually rescan and it was gone. I would come back and walla it was there again. Any ways I searched the internet for this file and found it at several other web sites. One moderator said someone came in and posted it so thats why I thought it eas for real. If its a joke its a good one.

thanks PsychoBud for helping

You should wipe your face off after I blow my load on it. Its not cool walking around with the malt still running down from your eye.

hobo....easier to do what I did....write a regestry snapshot comparison program.

no alerts for anything but new executable keys in areas where they will be run at boot...and logging like that ensures you know what keys are associated with what programs (and other keys)

couple that with occasional checks of netstat -ano and running processes, and I uncover most virii within minutes of getting them, without a software firewall OR AV program to annoy me. AND I find them simple to cripple or remove.
