June 18, 200519 yr Depends on what you want to get... If your building a new rig i would go with pci express becasue they got cards that only cost around 250 and they spank AGP cards that cost over 500... Get a MB with DDR2 low latency, and for sound the aduigy 2 is a very good choice...but i would only get a sound card if you have a 5.1 or more speakers...its worthless with cheap 2.1 speakers. but if you got pci express go for the nvidia 6600GT or ati x650 or somthing...
June 19, 200519 yr Don't buy top of the line, you'll regret it later. I'd buy either an SLI or CrossFire motherboard, even if you don't get two cards right away. Buy a midrange card, such as a Radeon x600 or nvidia's 6600 gt. Get 1gb of ddr2 ram, an athlon xp 3500+ processor (socket 939), and a nice 160 gb (or greater) 7200 rpm hard drive. Don't worry about sound cards unless you have the speakers to make it count. Onboard sound is usually fine. If you must, buy a SoundBlaster Audigy series card. They're good, solid cards that are well supported.
