I've gotten alot of this sort of stuff...for you newbies...forget it! Learn WHAT you are doing, and if you're having a techincal issue, I MIGHT fucking help you, but I'm not going to give you a step by fucking step tutorial on how to do something when you don't have a clue as to WHAT you are doing, just what you might get out of it.

 

 

Ethereal is a packet sniffer...it captures all packets that go in or out of your NIC when turned on...if you look at the packets coming from the server to your comp, those packets hold information FROM THE SERVER (duh)...some of that information is the logfile, which you can't open while it's on your machine, but it is CAPTURED by the program, to be opened at your leisure.

 

Learn to identify the proper packets, and hunt through them until you find the info you want...

no, its just that you can log into irc or something and tell an admin that there is a cheater so they log into rcon. If you use tab it will take longer and the game might crash

i might not be the best in this but im trying learn.... everyone's gotta start somewhere...

i read a lot, try not to post bull shit, so im asking now cause ive yet to find anything from wut i have done. im a newb. After going through and sniffing for a few hours, some random servers, i ctrl+f and do an ascii search just for rcon. ive gotten some results, but have yet to get a rcon_pw. if im doing it right then just say, 'ya fucktard your doing it right' if not then no big deal, ill keep reading untill i find the right way.

 

BTW im guessing from the exp ive had that when the server logs the txt files it does so in a way thats a broadcast... y? it doesnt make any fucking sense wut so ever, meaning we shouldnt be able to see those specific packets unless our machine has a specific use for those packets. if you follow me, do you know any reason that HL uses them?

 

also, you said there are specific packets that contain the individual text files, do you know the correct string format to weed out only those?

Does Wine-X screw up your sound daemon?...It does mine...shuts it right down when I use Wine-X. I have to stop and start wine-x again to make it work for mp3's or what have you.

Heh, i'm a dumbass :copchase for those of you trying to ctrl f and get unexpected end of filter line. press the goddamn button that says string, then press the button that says "decoded packet (middle pane)". I guess that's how you do it, i have'nt gotten any results for recon though.
